Barbara Jaffee is hands-down the best faculty member at the SoAD. Her wit is astounding and she is an intellectual that has not become out of touch with non-academics, and she will not fault you for being more interested in fine arts practice than art history. After all, she has degrees in everything (including painting). Hilarious and a must take.

Barbara Jaffee is brilliant. She is able to break down and explain complex art theory in a way that is approachable and engaging. Because of her breadth of knowledge and experience she is able to present to the class a broad array of perspectives to help our overall understanding. She is a fantastic professor, I am so glad I took her classes!

Easily the best professor in the Art History department. Her lectures are very clear and concise. Just take notes and you can't fail. She's a outstanding professor in a department full of difficult professors. Plus, you can learn a ton from her. Gets you to think about art differently.

Go to class and you will be fine on tests. I didn't find the readings all that relevant to the materials. She does kinda dumb it down for the studio art majors (sorry, but it's true), so if you are expecting a historically based art course this is not it. Overall good class, just wish there was more historical grounding rather than philosophical.

Very nice woman. Not too challenging, but makes you work for your grade. Most of the tests are based on your notes, so write down everything she says. Cracks herself up a lot in class. Kind of funny.

I liked her, and her material was really interesting. The whole class is set up really well because the teachers switch off and teach what they are most interested in.

Dr. Jaffee's material was my favorite material from the course. It was all the stuff we've all seen and heard of. She had to miss some lectures because of other things, but when she was there, the material was really interesting.

Found Jaffee's topics extremely interesting. Other reviewers point out her dryness - so what. Her research and arguments are compelling. Would recommend her for art history buffs, especially offbeat courses that she offers (Duchamp Effect, American Art).

I only had her for a couple of weeks in art history because we had rotating professors, but aside from the ultra-lame jokes she still presented rather interesting material

BORING AS HECK. The only excitement was when she would cry cuz people were sleeping or not laughing at her very bad jokes, props for trying though. One of my art hist. profs related everything to sex, now she was a good teacher.

I feel like she was difficult to follow at times. But, she was one of the better art history teachers at NIU. She is way better than Swanson's retarded butt. She has got to be the dumbest thing walkin'!

Can be interesting, but sooo hard to stay awake! Gave pop quizes so had to come to class. 3 papers which I didn't like. One exam-the final. Everything is opinion, not factual stuff, therefore don't really have to memorize anything. However I heard this semester class now has many teachers. Easy B

Very interesting.. I learned a lot about art that I had no clue about before I took this class. Sometimes tough to stay awake in class, but if you showed up most days and did the assignments, it was a breeze. Excellent
