On day one, she offered this analogy: in the same way you can be a great driver and not know understand what's under the hood, you can be a great writer and not understand the working parts of a sentence. This class, thus, requires a different kind of thinking, and you study through examples (like math). Her humor and tangents will get you through!

I have taken two classes this semester with her and she is so nice and helpful. She quickly responds to emails and is very specific and clear with how she grades and what she expects. Grammar was NOT easy but easier than an in class, class for me. I did not study alot but I was able to get by pretty well. I recommend doing all you can though!

Although both nice and entertaining, I don't feel that she was a very adequate teacher. She uses the exact same materials every year, which I think has caused her to forget what it's like to be new to the subject. Overall, I don't feel that I learned REAL WORLD grammar that I can actually put to use.

Took traditional grammar online and learned a lot! She is awesome in teaching in her videos for the class that were helpful for the tests and quizzes. I would recommend to write down or print out the powerpoint before watching the video to take notes on because they will be extremely helpful on the quizzes and tests.

If you're learning traditional grammar, this is the woman to go to! The class itself is extremely rigorous and in depth, but she gives review videos for every lesson and every exam. The lesson reviews are posted prior to class. If you just watch the video and work through it at your own pace, class will be a breeze and you'll pass every exam!

Pleasantly surprised by this teacher! I was not looking forward to this class, but it ended up being my favorite this semester. She teaches you how to write quality essays with developed thoughts. She grades accordingly, and always provides feedback for her reasoning. She is very fair and doesn't have unrealistic expectations.

This class is difficult but it had nothing to do with her teaching style. I'm a grammarian and it was still very challenging. She lets you know at the beginning of the course that being a "grammarian" will not help you in the class. Mandatory for english majors. I would def. recommend her over McKenzie if you have to take this class.

I took this class to boost my GPA. WRONG. I LOVE this teacher, but if you think you're a grammar expert, you aren't until you take this class. It takes grammar where you never thought it would go. This is the advanced calc of grammar classes. If not for your major, DO NOT TAKE IT!! if an ENG major, I highly recommend it!

enjoyed having her in grammar, but her online junior level writing class was terrible. she was very strict and not at all like she was in grammar. the essay topics are confusing and the final "project" is making a website with a group of people which has nothing to do with writing. would consider taking her again just not online.

Good sense of humor. The material can be hard if you do not keep up with the book and dont attend class. The chapters are 2-3 pages long and the homework is not mandatory but neccessary to do well on the tests. Her tests are short, about 25 questions. She is a great teacher with a wonderful personality. I highly reccomend her.

Grammar is not easy. It's like Algebra, but in English form. Barbara expects you to learn this stuff, but if you come to class and do the homework, you'll be okay. Also, a bit of advice, use the Wimba reviews. They are SUPER helpful.

I had Vanvoorden for Traditional Grammar. She is a fantastic teacher, and she makes what we're learning comprehensible and interesting. Her tests are very difficult, and I do not recommend missing class at all. Studying is a must, and lots of it.

Great teacher. She creates a learning environment where discourse is encouraged and success is guaranteed. I don't care which class of hers you are thinking of taking, just take it. If you are a decent to good writer, then this will be easy; if you are a less developed writer, then this will be difficult but rewarding.

I had her for traditional grammar. By nature, the course is extremely boring, but it is required for all english majors. A lot of people find her tests to be difficult; however, I thought they were easy and fair. She seems to be a very nice lady, and I never tried to meet with her outside of class, so I do not know about her availability.

If you want to show that you have a college level English education,"Don't split your infinitives." Barbara is fair. She is a straight shooter. You will learn from her
