Barry's a very genuine and funny man, but I harbor a lot of resentment against him because he made me hate my favorite subject for an entire semester. He gives illegible and obtuse commentary on papers. One second your thesis is too broad, the next it's too detailed. Never figured out what he wanted in any of my work. Wish I'd never taken the class

Barry is so insane, but he's really a great teacher and is totally willing to help out the students and go over and over essays or assignments. If you're late with an assignment, he's cool about it too and doesn't grade you down, just do as much as you can and keep up with as much as you can because he gives a ton of work.

He's not the right fit for everyone. From seeing students coming into his office hours I get the jist of what his seminar class is like too. I really enjoyed his class although the work load was a little impossible (you don't have to do all of it). If you expect arbitrary grades or don't like to talk in class, I wouldn't suggest him.

IF i have success in my writing career, it is owed to Barry. His Shakespeare class challenged me to think in the most creative and organized ways. His class his rigorous; constant emails, homework, mid term. But, the experience is impeccable. If you want to take a real SHAKESPEARE and COLLEGE class, this one is for you.

Horwitz is late to every class. Hes the most scatterbrained person i have ever met. He is really really nice, but so unorganized and he grades essays really hard. He emails you at least 7 times a week which get super annoying and he gives a lot of busy work. I would neverr take his class again and i do not reccommend him!

When Barry questioned why I was in his upper-class, he did it jumping up and down on the table. He has a great, loud view of the world. Take a moment to listen and then challenge him on his views. You'll get an A by engaging him in writing/word. He hates laziness. (1988-1992)
