Ben unfortunatley passed away a few years ago but i did take him a year before he passed. What i remember about him was he had high expectations that i have learned to appreciate years later as he did prepare me well for CSU East Bay. Toughest grader i have ever had

He is really inspirational and willing to meet up with you as many times as required for you to get the material. He makes you think outside the box and expand your thoughts. His lectures are more of a conversation about the book and without you thinking about it the main ideas of the text come out and you begin to understand the books.

Mr. Hollander's classes will challenge those who struggle with critical analysis and writing most. There's not much work to turn in, so your grade will depend mostly on the few essays or group projects he assigns. I personally enjoyed the class because of the depth in discussions and little homework -- plus Hollander's a funny guy! Easy A.

Ben Hollander. The epitome of mild. And not in a bad way either. In his own words, Mr. Hollander is neither lenient nor is he a disciplinarian. He is simply reasonable. With a class of mostly lectures and group work, Mr. Hollander will leave you with some incredible insight, not only about English, but about all aspects of the human experience.

Professor Hollander is a real laid back guy, he wants you to learn material and when you show up to class it's required to participate (if you want to pass). Look just read the books bruh it's interesting and contains deep content that could strike controversial views and opinions of others. Overall good class bruh. YEEET!

This class is not about finding the right answers, it's about developing your way of thinking and analysis. Your ideas and opinions are your most valuable tools in this class, and I enjoyed being able to learn and discuss topics outside of my typical comfort zone.

Great professor for poetry, gives great feed back, if you are a beginner poet you will learn a lot. The class is really easy, and interactive. No book needed, but you will have to print some readings he gives, sometimes he prints them out himself.

First of all, I must say I enjoyed everything about this class. From the content to the atmosphere created by students and the instructor. This class and professor has taught me how to appreciate not only stuff from the era, but lit from genocide as well. No pressure for essays, just journal, free writing lets you explore. Inspired to do more! thx!

This class is mostly discussion based so make sure you read before class. The class grade is based on three essays and a group project. There are no tests. Occasionally he gives a quiz to make sure you read but there not a big grade. The class discussions were interesting. He was willing to read drafts and meet up outside class or answer emails.

He was really something! (thats a good thing). The books that i read were light years ahead as i personally thought that i was immature to be reading the stuff he recommended us reading (back then i thought). You will do essays and the usual english class regiments so be prepared.

Hollander is the most thought provoking teacher you'll ever encounter. The class discusses some heavy topics that can bring up controversial opinions but Hollander is very open and encourages any,and everyone's personal interpretation of texts. Class is mandatory due to a majority of your grade being presentations on material, and participation.

Hollander is a very fair instructor. He isn't there for a paycheck, he's there to enable students to think for themselves. With that said, he has a lot of class discussions, but takes a backseat and lets the students get the convo going. His essay prompts are tough, but take notes during discussion. Usually the topic is the essay prompt.
