This was the best prof I've ever had. His dedication towards his students was amazing. The class is hard. Those who complained about it just aren't ready. He shows you how to succeed in upper level courses. He has a 3 hr review session every Fri. I was unable to make the 1st hr so every Mon he'd repeat the ENTIRE review for me and just one other.

If you have never been challenged in your life, this is the class for you. Be prepared to spend more time studying for his weekly quizzes, than for your econ final. But once you have passed, you are prepared for ANYTHING the academic world throws at you. He's tough, he's inspirational, and for all I know, he might be God.

He is a wonderful mentor. His philosophy is "coaching world class scholars". His class was not easy, but he encourages along the way. This class prepares you for the upper level science classes.

This is one of the best teachers on campus. Probably one of the hardest classes you will take as an undergraduate, but you will be extremely prepared for all upper division work after taking a course with this professor. I have never come across any teacher so genuinely dedicated to his students. You'll have to work for the A, but it's possible.

Dr. Pierson is one of the best professors you will ever have. He is genuinely interested in the success of his students and provides several opportunities for you to make a good grade. Only half the course was traditional genetics, the other half was molecular bio & evo/devo. If you take him you will be ready for upper division courses and beyond.

THE WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD. LITERALLY expects you to memorize every word he speaks in class. An idiot with a photographic memory could ace his class, but reasonably intelligent people who just don't have 15+ hours per week to memorize his notes word for word will feel themselves crushed under the weight of his ridiculous expectations.

Dr. Pierson is the man to take for genetics. He gives pre-meds a taste of what they are in for when they got o med school. While that doesn't sound fun, you have to learn to study properly sometime, and this is a great place to learn as Pierson will be there every step of the way to help you through. This cannot be said of most undergrad profs. A+

think hard about it before you take this guy - if you love memorizing rote definitions, hes your guy. but for me that isnt anything one of us needs to pay for - I can read a book without some guy ranting in front of me. two thumbs down.

If you don't plan on devoting a LARGE amount of time learning the material, this is not the class for you. Pierson is tough, but fair, and he'll give you a quality education. He's really inspirational, and a very good academic coach. I cannot stress to you how much you need to study for this class... it's insane! But I'd recommend him.

Extremely good lecturer. Talks quickly but is very detailed; makes sure each student understands. Homework once a week for the first month and a half, after that, almost nothing. Expects memorized definitions and statistics from notes. TA posts recordings of lectures online. GO TO DISCUSSION SESSIONS, covers the quiz material well. Recommended!!

Don't listen to the rude comments on here. Dr. Pierson is the most unbelievable proffesor at UT. He helped me through my learning disability, and now I'm about to go to Med. School. His class is very hard and detailed, but if you don't be dumb and party instead of studying, you will get an A like I did. You will learn more than you can ever imagine

My favorite professor so far! Cool guy, but don't be intimidated. Believe me, you will be intimidated, but if you can do it, the class is great. It's definitely NOT easy though, and I got my worst grade in this class, but I didn't try hard enough. You get an A here, you can get an A anywhere!

Pierson is a very hard and even worse- ABSOLUTELY CRAZY professor!!! He expects you to memorize every single problem that you do in order to do well on his quizzes and tests. You memorize everything and it's very hard to succeed in the class. I got out a couple of weeks after being in that class bc i lost all hope!

Hard...a lot of memorizing. I didn't get a great grade in the class, but I probably learnt the most in this class and probably will remember it for a long time (with all the damn memorizing!!) He is genuinely interested that his students learn something from his class...and you will, if you pay attention to what you memorize.

Yes, he is very hard and he expects you to memorize a lot, but he makes himself available if you need help. Usually, he'll give points back on a test if you provide a good argument...or any argument. He really cares that his students do well and succeed in life. He's one of those professors that students either absolutely love or hate.
