Very kind and always explains anything difficult. If you complete all the work you can't get lower than a C.

Not a great teacher, but nice. She is very dry, but does have a witty personality once you understand her. As long as you make an effort on ALL the quizzes, do ALL the homework, and do the labs, you will pass. I did horrible on the test and final and passed. Trust me, as long as you do everything else, you will pass. Same thing as physics 204.

Her classes are not the type that you can barely pay attention to and not do any of the homework and think you can get a good grade. The homework is weekly, usually two assignments a week, and if you do them you will pass. Ask her lots of questions, she's good at answering them. Her lecture isn't boring she's very good at taking her time to explain

Tough class. You have to work as many problems as you can get your hands on to succeed. She is very helpful if you go to her outside of class and ask questions. Know your calculus, you will need it. Complete all required assignments and REALLY know your theory.

Awesome, always helps and is very nice. Tests and everything is on the syllabus, with quizzes everyday. There are not pop, and are worth three points each, one is for writing your name down. Awesome and wish all of my teachers were like Dr. Shepard.

Mrs. Shepard was a good teacher, but did not make it easy. She challenges you. But if you show up everyday and complete the work you will get at least a C. This class is just effort and showing up. The tests are very hard but wont ruin your grade, they aren't a huge part of the entire grade. I like her a lot because she makes your learn.

Carmen Shepard is a GEM, and I've had her for both Physics 204 and 205. I was actually going to SIUE and came back to SWIC for 205 because of her. Physics is a challenging subject, and you better believe most university professors won't invest their time in you like she does. Read your book and keep up on the homework to stay afloat.

She assigns homework over material that is not covered until after the homework is due. If you dont read the chapter in the book, you will have no idea how to do it. She gives daily quizzes after the class has already ended. She doesn't review or explain tests. She only spends one day on a unit and she rushes through the info. READ THE SYLLABUS.

She's not a bad teacher. She's pretty nice, helpful, and a dry sense of humor. The class is definitely difficult (because of the material) and has A LOT of work, but if you do all the homework and labs, you're almost guaranteed to pass. I personally think all the bad reviews are from lazy people.

She's tough and sometimes confusing, but more than willing to help you learn. I really liked her class and learned a lot, but I know I'm in the minority when I say I liked her as a teacher. Read the sections, do the homework, pay attention in class, and prepare for the quizzes at the end of class.

Not a very good teacher in my opinion, quiz every day over what you just learned. Lecture is not very clear, even after doing all the homework the tests are very confusing and difficult. Wish there was another option for this class during the day.

We just had a quiz over material we were taught that day without warning. There were 6 minutes left in class & the class after ours was filing in as we were still struggling to finish. My suggestion would be to write EVERYTHING she says down & take extra notes. If you are immediately confused, raise your hand & ask or talk to her after class.

shes a very cool and good person. but is the WORST teacher ive ever had, indirect, her lectures make no sense. shes very boring and monotone. she will help you one on one though, in the rare chance you get. shes funny in a dry way, but the class is extremely hard. DONOT TAKE THIS CLASS

She isn't the clearest when it comes to teaching and her tests are incredibly difficult. If you talk to her 1 on 1 she's a lot more helpful, than if you just ask a question in class. Great Person, just not the best at relating information to her students

I had Carmen for mechanics, E&M, and quantum a couple years back and just wanted to send out a message to those struggling with her class. Warning: if you struggle to make a decent grade in Carmen's classes after having given a legitimate effort, you will not make it at a real university. The material is taught at about half the pace of a four year

I had her for Mechanics several years back. She was tough, but I remember she posted the homework in the hallway & quizzes were open book. She would give you points on quizzes if you made an honest effort it seemed unless she was in a bad mood. Lab reports and challenge problems were opportunities for easy points. I survived somehow with a B.

There is a quiz every other day and sometimes over untaught sections. The book we used was very confusing and she expected us to have a good idea after reading a chapter. The only help you will get is if you know what questions to ask and with this style it is hard to stay current with the material.

If you take her class you will need to teach yourself. She teaches as though you already know a decent amount of physics. When she "explains" she rushes through in a vague way without going into detail. Another warning, she has a quiz everyday, and sometimes the quiz is before she teaches section for the day.

This is not your typical community college course. If you do not come into this class prepared to learn and study on your own you will fail. That being said, Shepard is not known for her clarity. It's very hard to learn anything from her, as teaching does not seem to be her forte. The class is hard, but not impossible.
