I've heard some things about Cathie, but she really isn't that bad if you just show up to class and do the assigned work; She will pick up on that. I had her class once a week every Tuesday. The downside is that she doesn't post grades to canvas and you may have to ask her in person what your grade in the class is which doesn't make sense to me.

Comment:

Such an amazing teacher who really cares about students. She tries to make even people who have never really had experience or preference for art really enjoy the class and the material she teaches. The class is pretty small so it was easy to get comfortable with everyone even if you are not a people person. Overall really enjoyable and fun!

Comment:

Cathie is a very great professor who cares for her students. She really wants to see her students try in her class and will always help you out if you are struggling with the assignment. She makes drawing fun. I was never good at drawing but, after taking her class I saw how much I improved and learned.

Cathie is an amazing teacher! I have taken 2/3 classes with her and she always knows how to make you step outside of your comfort zone and grow. Non-art majors may feel a bit threatened by her, but she is just trying to bring out the creativity within! Participation in her class matters, stay on task, put in effort and be able to explain your work

She is ok in the beginning of the semester , however, she seems to lose it when students branch off to their own ideas for a project . And also thinks it is ok to yell at students when they are trying to get to the next class after finishing their work. Then one time she really tested my patience in a one on one meeting. She said I wasted her time.

Cathie is truly amazing teacher and inspirational. She is my favorite teacher at SXU. She give great feedbacks. I was so glad I took this class with her, the studio class had a low number of student and she can spend so much time on each student. She is very passionate and will contagiate you. let her know in advance if you need to miss a class

I highly recommend taking classes with Cathie. She knows how to help you step out your comfort zone and create beautiful art that you will be so proud of. She will give you wonderful feedbacks. I am not an art major and I cant even believe what I've accomplished in her classes. Cathie rocks. Make sure you are on time.

Some of the comments made about how approaches certain students may appear true on the surface, but it's simply not true. She's someone who cares so much about the material that passiveness is an annoyance, give her a chance and work hard. Otherwise, she will verbally come down on you like a hammer.

Cathy has to be one of the best teachers I have had. Yes she is tough, yes she expects work, after all anything worthwhile in life takes extra effort if you want success, no she doesn't dislike men, she has inspired and influenced my thought process still to this day 15 years later

Cathie is a great teacher. She is organized and DOES expect the students to complete assignments and show up to class. Show up unprepared and yes, she will have something to say - but that is her job. Do your work, and you will be fine. She is helpful

She really does hate guys in her class. I never been yelled at from a teacher like her since I was in highschool! I was waiting for her to give me a detention or something. If you dont like the work, fine, give me a bad grade. Dont lecture me!

She was hard and I think that she hated all the men in the class. She is a big on attendance and she sends home a letter if you miss more than 3 classes. She also seems to daydream and just yells at all of the freshmen.
