Prof. Bryant is a wonderful person and a genuine intellectual. He may be intimidating to some but his office hours are a must. My reading and analytic skills vastly improved after my first class with him. Pro tip: only open your mouth in class if you have something insightful to say. He does not tolerate any intellectual laziness.

Prof. Bryant has extremely high expectations for his students, and he won't hesitate to destroy you in class or on your papers if you're wrong. But if you learn from your mistakes and go to his office hours religiously, your writing (and thinking) will vastly improve.

Professor Bryant is one of the smartest people I have ever met. I took his W1 class, and my writing really improved. His classes are HARD. He grades REALLY HARD. But in the end it will be worth it. It is important to note that he does not believe in prompts, so when you write papers, you have the freedom to write about what you want.

Tough class. Lots of reading and writing. No prompt, which can be either good and bad. He knows a heck of a lot. In short: if you are an English Major : you need to take him, if not, you might enjoy another class and prof more.

Comment:
I took many classes with Professor Bryant, but 255 was the first. Now I am myself a professor of American literature. It all began in that class (over two decades ago). He is a must-take professor, and one of Colby's very, very best. Bryant first showed me what it meant to be an intellectual and a scholar.

I had Professor Bryant over 10 years ago, and I attribute my career success to his teaching. His classes polished my writing and analytical skills, both of which are valuable in any profession! He goes above and beyond to help his students, and is clear about his expectations (which are high). A very talented and genuine person!

Professor Bryant is an inspiration. He asks a lot of his students, but everyone leaves his class a much better writer. Bryant's class changed my life. Show up to every class on time, work hard on your papers, and he will respect you. Tardiness or laziness will send you straight to the bottom of his list, which is a place you do not want to be.

Prof B. is amazing. My writing has improved so much from working with him. His essay assignments may induce a bit of stress but the end result if you put in the work is well worth it and the writing skills carry on into other classes and life in general really. He's always willing to help in office hours and is one of the nicest people one on one.

Great class. Prof. Bryant is extremely smart and leads great class discussions. His expectations are high, but you will become a better writer for it. If you're an English major at Colby, a class with Prof. Bryant is a must. Really hard to see him during office hours because the line is so long, but that just shows how helpful those meetings are.

Great professor. Conversation was always interesting. He's really helpful when you meet with him, but has very few office hours and due to the number of people who need to see him it takes a long time. Definitely worth taking a class with him though. The style of writing that he expects helps your writing in every field!

He is SO smart. And disregard people complaining that he puts them down - he will definitely tell you if you're wrong, but that's what you're in class to learn. I would NOT take Critical Theory again with him, however... his teaching style is too rambling. Take it with someone else, but definitely make sure you take a class with him!

Professor Bryant is amazing. While at times he's a rambler and he loves to make jokes about how he has his PhD and we don't, he is most likely the smartest person I know and an exceedingly wonderful person. Go to office hours early and often. It will save you major hardships.
