Dr. V is very knowledgeable and definitely knows his stuff. Most of the class is labs, which you can do either in class or mostly at home. You dont HAVE to attend class, but it is almost always beneficial to be in class. Labs can be difficult, but just ask for help or seek help from other students. You will get a good grade if you work hard.

Best Professor in MSU. Take any InfoSec Class with him if you have an option. Even If you are not taking any classes with him but just want information about InfoSec, just reach out to him. Cares about every student. Judges students by their knowledge instead of homeworks or tests.

I graduated from MNSU several years ago. I took 2 classes with Dr. V during my final year at the school. Before his classes I had no idea what I wanted to do with my career. Dr. V's classes helped me realize that Information Security was the career path to me. He is truly passionate about security, and it tends to rub off a bit. Highly recommended!

Thus far, he is my favorite IT professor in the department. I loved learning useful information security tips from him. I'm not quite sure why the reviews for him are so low when I have had such a great experience with this professor. If you plan on pursuing information security, you need to get to know this guy. Trust me.

Veltsos is a security professor, not a software development professor. He lectured maybe 10 minutes per 1.75 hour class and expected the class to "learn from each other", probably because he just didn't know much about the topic. Take security classes with him, NOT development classes.

Tough class, but did not feel my grade was based on his whims. He makes you earn your grade. If you have a question not necessarily about the course, he will do what he can to answer you. He cares about his students.

Good information in class, however the tests require you to memorize little things that I don't think should be included in an intro class like this one.

Great class. Need the book but could prob share w/ someone. 3 exams - multiple choice & essay, just read the book and will get at least B. HW - usually gives 100% if you turn it in in decent quality. This is college, do the work and you will get the grade you want. Will take his IT 450 class. One of the best profs to know/network with around campus

Fun class. Fair grading and labs, not too much to complain about. Gets a little too visibly chummy with certain students though; it's a little obnoxious.

Pretty good class; nice guy. He's really full of himself and he'll read his own blog to the class, but it's mostly just to give you an idea of how the material connects to the real world. Tests are exactly from the lecture, but the lecture is mostly from the book. I missed a lot of class and still did well just from studying the book.

Easy class, just go to class and take part in discussions. Tests are exactly whats in class. Make sure to submit sample questions so you get the study guide. He is very full of himself. He thinks he is the man at infosec, if you can just take his bragging sessions and take something out of his lectures, you'll do fine.

He is an AWSOME teacher will help you learn a lot that you will be well prepared for next coming classes too. Bad thing is his objective portion in exams. He can give you anything from the book so reading is compulsory I dont like reading so I had troubles with that. So many bonus opps so take him as your teacher.

Extremely helpful teacher, if you have a question he is there to help. He expected a lot out of us which I thought was a good thing because it better prepares us for the upcoming courses. Lots of extra credit opportunities and a very fair grader. Super smart guy, knows exactly what hes talking about!

Not bad, but can be rudely blunt. When handing tests back to students, he will blurt out his commentary to the whole class, like "You could have done better on that one". Strange but funny if one of your friends does bad. Knows his stuff though, so don't worry about taking a class from him.

This class was tough, but it was very doable. It started very dull, wavelengths, wire types, crap like that. But once it got to java it got quite interesting. His programming assignments are awesome, you actually get to do some interesting things. Does tend to lecture from the book though.

Expects alot from his students but a very fair grader, programming assignments were easy as long as you give yourself enough time to do them, with ample opportunity for extra credit. Cool guy too.
