Comment:

Dr. Krebs is remarkable. Not only is he a leading scholar in the field, but he is an amazing teacher who really cares to see his students learn the material he has dedicated his life to mastering. Schenkerian analysis can be tricky, but Krebs is always willing to provide a guiding hand and help you to make sense of it!

Comment:

Never met a more helpful and enthusiastic Professor. He turned a subject I loathed into a subject I love!! He makes me smile in every class and is very prompt and thorough when responding to emails. Would definitely go out of my way to take another class with him.

He is definitely passionate about theory but is a little heavy-handed with marking and sometimes singles out students in class. He is very enthusiastic but I found him a little phoney sometimes; I didn't mind him however, he was a fair teacher.

I've never met a guy as passionate about music theory as Krebs. Having him for Mus101 definitely made it more enjoyable to learn what some people might consider a dry part of music

Comment:

Remarkable professor. Small class size and regular assignments allows for regular personalized feedback, and the marks on his assignments/tests are always fair and quite clear. Difficult class if you aren't familiar with advanced rudiments, but it's very possible to get high grades if you keep up. Definitely recommended.

Before taking the class, make sure you have a THOROUGH understanding of rudiments. Krebs expects you to be fluent in the fundamentals and you will suffer if you dont. Good teacher that moves at a fair pace. Calls for answers from the class often (You'll be asked something everytime) so stay on top of things during the lectures.

He's fantastic-explains everything very clearly, uses memorable examples (including performers), and the assignments reinforce what you learn. He's also a fair marker and good pianist. Take theory with him!

Dr.Krebs is possibly the best teacher I've ever had. He always has a great attitude, he is crystal clear and very helpful, and an amazing pianist. He doesn't overload you with homework, and he's always willing to help. He also brings cookies :)

Comment:

One of the best profs I've ever had. Cheerful and genuinely interested in music theory. Made it interesting. Fair marker. Great pianist. Brought smarties for the class! I wish he taught all the levels of theory because it is such a potential disaster, depending on the professor, and Krebs will SAVE you! Sweet crab stamps for perfect marks.

So enthusiastic about the subject matter. He takes a potentially dull topic and turns it into something alive and interesting. Very energetic and always goes beyond what's expected to provide engaging and interesting lectures. He's an excellent pianist and a great guy. Not many assignments but just enough. Very helpful outside of class too.

So helpful and clear, his handouts and lectures were 100x better than the text. Not too many assignments, all assignments were valuable to understanding the course. Helpful quizzes! He would mark anything for you, if it would help improve your understanding. Ideal music theory teacher, can't imagine anyone being better than he was! I'll miss him

Amazingly sweet man and an awe-inspiring pianist, but just plain bland when lecturing. Non-pianists will probably be completely lost. Luckily he is willing to help a lot outside of class, but it would be nice if he just made sense the first time around
