Comment:
Impossible to engage with this class. Instructor cares about subject, but after teaching the same thing for 40 years does everything as habit with no way to interest students. Tests are word for word what he says in class (regardless of what the text says), making it hard or difficult depending on whether you remember it. Good intent, boring class.

Nice but only reason to take his class is to fill a req. Learning is limited, may as well read wikipedia or just buy the textbook-- he does not teach, just rambles about details he cares about. He is too old to have any connection to the students and cannot hear/understand questions. The class is not exactly difficult, just boring and ineffective.

I was very impressed with this course. Professor Bernd made sure everyone was on the same page, as far as the material went. Feedback on weekly essays was extremely helpful. He also did a great job of discussing and analyzing the readings.

Nice guy who knows his stuff, but he tends to repeat himself quite a bit. He also tends to oversimplify both the German language and the concepts he teaches. Not a horrible course, but certainly not a stellar one, either.

He's a good professor. Really passionate about what he teaches, and makes sure the class really understands the subject matter. His lectures are really thorough, to the point where if you miss a reading it's no big deal. His are straight forward: you know it or you don't.

He teaches classical German literature mostly so it's not HIS language which his "antiquated." He's a wonderful person. He just likes people who do their work.

Dr. Bernd is a great man; he gives a fair amount of reading, and makes sure everyone understands the material. Writing assignments aren't terribly difficult, and he is a fair grader. Oh, also, he's nice and approachable, and always availible for help.
