Prof Herren is one of my favourites. He gives take home exams and essays. Attendance isn't mandatory but this course has really interesting material so its worth going. He is so accommodating and helpful to students. Really great professor!

Great prof. However, I have seen him raise the marks of students' sub-par work. I suppose this makes him a "nice guy". If you are going to raise marks for crappy papers you should also raise "A" papers to an "A+". I think it is only fair. GPAs matter to those of us with aspirations (and the ability) for grad school.

Fantastic professor. Very clear on assignment expectations. Gives good feedback. Very approachable and responds quickly to emails. This course was actually more interesting than I initially thought it would be. Nothing but praises for Prof. Herren.

Although his lectures can get quite dry, they are straightforward and he covers the readings quite thoroughly which was helpful for assignments. Very approachable and genuinely wants his students to succeed. If you follow the assignments to a T, you are guaranteed an A. Definitely recommend!

He is such a nice guy! Took his class during summer. He gave us all an extension and is really understanding and nice. If you are interested in philosophy, def take this class with Professor Herren! Two major papers and one take-home exam. Take notes in class and email him with questions

Really good teacher who really tries to go out of his way to help you understand what he's teaching. DO NOT take a class this intense in the summer if you have other things going on. Herren tells you that from the get-go because what he's teaching is pretty jam-packed and intense. Otherwise Herren makes this a good class and is really helpful.

This must be THE best introductory course to Latin. Prof. Herren is so passionate about the language that he even sings for his students ^_^ His classes are always fun (w/ curious ancient history bits thrown in); quizes/tests are quite manageable. If you have an interest in latin, or you need it for grad school, take intro with Michael Herren.
