Professor Loomis class is great if youre looking for a way to challenge yourself, hell give take home quizzes and the answers can be found online. His test are written and multiple choice; reading helps and so does quizlet. He lets you keep quizzes so you can use those to study for test. You wont know your grade till the end, so just put inwork

Loomis is a semi-stern, but overall very reasonable professor. Students who do not try or pay very little attention during lectures will have a hard time. But if you put time in to read the textbook and take notes during his lectures, you will have no problem getting a good grade in his class.

I really enjoyed Professor Loomis' class. He is very passionate about History and his lectures are really interesting. Reading the textbook is very important! Take notes on his lectures and study them; they will show up on the tests. You will not do well if you are only half invested. 3 to 5 hours (weekly) of study time would be enough.

Loomis expects a lot from you, but points you in the right direction. The book for his HIST17 class is pretty inexpensive and easy to find. His lectures are a lot of fun! He does not hold back his opinions, but he is respectful about it. What a guy!

Honestly was lost the whole time. Ended up with a D in the class and it was a class with him and another professor. No study guides not access to their slides. Miss lecture and youll be lost. No hw to practice anything. Interesting topic but so confusing since the professors would switch speaking. Dont take him

HORRIBLE PROFESSOR! I usually get A's and B's in all my classes and this class is the only one I've had such a hard time with. Even my stats class is so much easier than this class. He doesn't teach, he rambles about one single subject and personal experiences. His tests don't reflect what he "lectures" about. And to top it off he's RUDE!

Take it from someone who got an A in his class and someone who loves U.S. history. Do NOT take his class. He is rude, condescending and depressive. Doesn't lecture, spends most of the class talking about irrelevant political rants and personal stories. You will end up teaching yourself using the textbook, when the book should only be a supplement.

Mr. Loomis grades incredibly heavy on tests and they are kind of confusing. You really need to be in class to take the notes and pay attention when taking tests. But he is hilarious and knows his history well. He does what he loves. He also gives no homework which to me is a plus. Hes strict in a nice kind of way if that makes sense.

Rudest teacher I have ever met in my life. He doesnt care about his students at all. Only cares that he is retiring in a few years and is leaving.

Prof Loomis can be abrasive and rude at times and his pop quizzes and tests will slash your grade apart if you're not careful, but he knows what he talks about and you never leave a lecture without learning something new. He can also be pretty funny when he doesn't look like he doesn't want to be there, either. I'd rec him as a prof worth taking.

Easily one of my favorite Professors, I have heard some scorn over the fact they had him, I believe a lot of it has to do with a disinterest in pre-civil war American History, and history in general. Perhaps that is why I enjoyed this class more than they did, as history is a very interesting subject. I absolutely suggest taking this class.

Prof Loomis gives the best lectures out of any history professor at Chaffey College & I would happily take a class with him again, since it is clear that he is knowledgeable and passionate about what he teaches. Prepare to read the ENTIRE textbook & while he doesn't grade attendance, missing even one lecture will def knock your test down a letter

Loomis 's classes are tough but possible to pass with a good grade once you dedicate yourself to reading the book a lot. Lectures a lot so take plenty of good notes. Knows his humanities and wants students to know it too.

Only class I ever dropped because I was so scared that I'd fail. If you don't pass the first test there is absolutely no way for you to pass the class. His lectures are always off topic and then he expects you to know everything by yourself , I went to every class and wrote down everything he said and still failed the first test

He is the living example of what a college professor should not be. He provides so much useless information during his lectures and expects you to know most of what's provided in the textbook (usually 30 pages per chapter, double columns). His test mostly go along with the text w/ few questions from lecture. Not an easy A. You're gonna work hard.

This is irrelevant to his method of teaching, but I just hate the way he swings his chin and closes his eyes when he talks. Some people like that his topic irrelevances forces us to study harder, but it's like saying "I like how the janitor cleans up some of the mess because it forces me to be a cleaner person." Also, he gets upset easily.

Perhaps one of the best instructors I have had in my life. I absolutely love this man. He provided some amazing insight for me about history. Not only does he explain things at their façade, but he does go way deeper into why things happened as they happened. Just amazing. I always looked forward to his class. Sad that I can't take him again :

I was excited to learn about the Holocaust & was quickly disappointed because this guy wouldn't stop talking about pointless maps & irrelevant dates that you will never hear again. He ended up cramming months worth of info into the last 2 weeks & leaves you to fend for yourself. Avoid this class, & take a class where your money will be well spent.
