First of all, do not buy the textbooks. We never used them once. Second of all, never take a class from this professor.

Sirbu knows her material but she is an awful teacher. Interaction Design is a course that students need a prof who can really show the class how to work with Processing and Arduino programs very efficiently. She does not explain and display how she gets her stuff to work. Don't recommend taking this course with Sirbu.

She obviously knows her stuff when it comes to design, but she's unorganized and very unclear. Every lecture its something different, and not in a good way. Everyone is always left questioning. Projects are very unclear and asking her to clarify doesn't help. If you can help it, don't take a class with her. So much regret.

As a person she is ok but she is a terrible teacher and makes class so confusing. Easy marker but if you actually want to learn anything don't take a class with her

Sirbu, although a very kind person, is a very bad teacher. She does not explain assignments, expects a lot of knowledge for a beginners class, and she refused to give examples for assignments. Be prepared to spend a lot of time outside of class experimenting in the Adobe Suite, as she never clearly teaches you how to use it.

She assigns a lot and sometimes isnt clear on whats been assigned. When asked questions, she seems to not give the answer. When we didnt understand what was expected of our first assignment and asked her to show us examples, she refused. Also tore me to shreds on an assignment where I could tell I put in more effort than others.

Her outline wasnt clear on what was expected of us. We had homework every other day of useless things that, at the time, we didnt even know we WERENT being graded for. In the end out of 4 possible grades, she only completed 1 and it wasnt even the participation grade. I ended up with an a+ solely because she only marked one thing and I got 100%.

Animation with Sirbu was a nightmare. As someone who knows 3D VERY well, I had to argue with this professor for grades which were docked due to not using her methods - I had used Inverse Kinematics throughout the course, which allows for better character interactions. Don't take a class with Sirbu if you want to use methods created since 2005.

The course itself had a lot of potential, but with her lighting fast instructions that one could understand, and the microscopic writing on the whiteboard, just made the class so boring to be in. Me and the other 15 people in the class all came to the same conclusion: we learnt more in one google search than we did the while semester.

No professor has come even close to Daniela Sirbu. I can't NOT recommend her enough. She doesn't interact with the students, and seems filled with ignorant bliss, where she just goes off on her own with disregard to students. She doesn't use the textbooks she forces you to buy and she wont even let you get an A+ unless you're special, 100% is an A.

Never gives clear answers. Unorganized lectures and teaching style. Never use the text book at all. She is figuring out how to actually use the program she's attempting to teach while teaching it. Nice outside of class, but she's rude in class when asking a question. If you can avoid this class, please try to.

Daniela is a pretty lenient marker if you actually put in the effort on her projects. She can tend to assign a fair amount of homework, but so long as you have a good knowledge of 3DS Max, you should be fine. Students who didn't take NMED 3030 with her had more problems. Textbooks were somewhat unnecessary for the class but are good reference.

Comment:
The first two classes I took with Daniela were not her specialty, which made learning with her a bit difficult and frustrating. In 3D modelling, you can tell she knows what shes doing and is good at it. She goes fast during lectures, add her accent and it can be difficult to keep up, f you pay attention and take notes, you will learn things quickly

I had Daniela for both NMED 2005 & 2010. In my experience she is very homework heavy and her lectures are disorganized. I essentially learned how to do things via google. She requests textbooks that you'll never open, so I'd recommend not buying them til you need them. On the plus side, she's an easy grader and is genuinely a nice lady one-on-one.

Daniela is the type of professor that you actually have to do work for in order to pass *Queue "oohs" and "aahs." There is definitely a barrier of confusion as it may sometimes be difficult to understand her, but I'd be surprised if anyone got below a B in her class. Handing something in without trying is an automatic C, at least.

I pay 2000+ a semester to be rightfully taught something, not to be told to go "visit the website" whenever I have a question. Sirbu does exactly that. I am always confused when I go to class and I NEVER know when something is done. She doesn't actually teach, she just expects you to go on the class website and figure everything out on your own.

She has unrealistic expectations of her students, often giving assignments before teaching the required materials then criticizing the students for not doing it the way she wanted it. She seems to think that her class comes before all others. I have found this class extremely stressful compared to other 2nd & 3rd year courses as have many others.

Most frustrating class of my life. She is super strict (if you miss two classes (and lates count as absences too) then you get docked a letter grade) and has unrealistically high expectations and deadlines. Never leave her class early even if it is a work period and there are 5 minutes left or she will penalize you. Avoid her class at all costs.
