Comment:

DB makes men out of boys. He is incredibly passionate about Geology, and will inspire his students to achieve their best results. If you enroll in his courses but don't put forth the effort, he will sternly tell you to get your arse in gear. Work hard, pay attention, and you'll realize DB has the most to offer of all the profs in the department.

Comment:

Dr. Blake is extremely knowledgeable on the subject, however he teaches at a much higher level than needed for this course. Our class average for tests were about a 70, and the total grade is mostly made of the 4 tests. He allows a makeup test to replace the lower grade though. I definitely learned a lot about geology, but it did not help my gpa.

Horrible. He is actually extremely knowledgeable in the field but his personalitycharacter get in the way of him being a good teacher most days. He completely lacks professionalism. He gets in the way of being a good professor because his moods affect him in an extreme way.

Comment:

He was one of my favorite professors of my undergraduate degree, I've taken many of his courses. He is a brilliant professor and his passion for Geology makes up for his mood swings in my opinion. Just go to class, take notes, and participate. He really cares about his students, just don't take his moods personally.

Dr. Blake is extremely knowledgeable and exceedingly willing to help those willing to work, show up on time, and make use of his teachings. His negative appraisals are assuredly coming from those not willing to do these things. He is not afraid to let you know it either. He deserves more respect. Be mature and responsible and you'll be good to go.

Through verbal abuse and physical intimidation, he purposefully creates an atmosphere of hostility and uncertainty. Every class you wonder if you will be met with Dr Jekyll or Mr Hyde. On this website, his defenders readily admit that he is both abusive and moody while dissenters are labeled as slackers, who are deserving of his wrath.

I've learned more from this man than any other professor I've met. If you want an easy class, look elsewhere. If you want to learn fundamental concepts and advanced studies of geology, he's your guy. If he is berating you, you're not doing your job as a student. He has a huge heart and wants students to learn. You will regret skipping his class.

Dr. Blake is the worst educator I have EVER come across. I am now a science teacher and I would NEVER demean or berate my students in the manner in which he does. He should NOT be teaching, he should be out in the field somewhere. Unless you want to be spoken down to and treated like dirt, DO NOT take his class!!!

DB is incredibly helpful and will go above and beyond for his students. You might get information overload, but stick with it and it will all come together in the end. I've never met a teacher that cares about students actually learning as much as DB does. For those that can't abbreviate Geology correctly, life is work and effort pays!

All I can say is this....naysayers beware....D.B. is an excellent professor, who, occasionally, with instigation, goes off on his students.While mostly his anger is directed toward a department that shows him a lack of respect, some students have the nerve to question what he teaches.... if you want easy courses go back to communication studies

Very moody and doesn't hide his anger well. He is a great teacher, but don't get on this guy's bad sad. It doesn't take much to upset this man, but for good reason. Study your notes and go to class. Don't be late...ever and you will be good to go. The knowledge this man can give you is incredible. Take GLY 171 and go to West V.

Blake is the worst teacher I have ever had. I'm on the deans list and I couldn't even understand him. He is so rude to the students and yells at the class almost everyday. He says you have to be mature to be in his class, but really he's the one who needs to grow up. Take any other teacher but him

Dr. Blake is a one of the hardest-working professors I have ever known. He puts a lot of effort onto preparing lectures, lab activities, and field trips. You will learn so much from him. His knowledge of tectonics/structural geology/petrology is amazing. Be prepared to work hard, and not take his modiness personal. Slackers beware!

This man is the rudest teacher I have ever encountered. He is resentful of students. He seems very bitter and angry. I literally never saw him smile unless he was ridiculing someone. The class is boring and monotonous. The lectures are ramblings about how long he has been in Geology and how much he knows about everything, but he is a horrible teach

Dr. Blake is very knowledgeable about geology. Unfortunately, he has horrible mood swings that can make his class very unpleasant. Basically, he ranges from barely pleasant to downright nasty, with the meanest days not occurring often, but the smallest things can set him off.
