Avoid at all costs. Attended every lecture, completed every task that was asked of me, and it didn't and doesn't matter because our grade was dependent on the final which comprised 90% of the overall grade.

I took this Professor for Torts. I felt he made the class more complicated than it should be. The Final didnt include 90% of the material he covered. It seems that he has never practiced law and it shows in the way he answers, or refuses to answer, questions. I would not recommend him as a qualified or caring teacher.

I took Chang for Crim and going into his class I was told he was very intense/difficult. In my opinion, he was one of the best teachers I've had so far. He pushes you, he questions your logic, and he makes you apply what you've already learned throughout his lectures. Tests are straight forward, no tricks. He loves Socratic Method. You'll be fine.

The class is about identifying legal issues, not necessarily torts. He pretends to be nasty, but its just a game. He will give you endless time out of class. Dont get psyched out by his focus on notes and outlining. Just learn how to IRAC really well and pay attention to the exact question he is asking.

Well let me put it this way. Tons of readings which is fine, however you can read all these cases and then not go over them or go over a small blurb of another case in the notes. More about statutory interpretation than substantive criminal law. With writing you really have to write exactly his way. If you have the option to take him, do not.

I truly believe that Prof. Chang means well with his teaching style, but a lot of times it seems that he is forcing himself to be intimidating. Chang also likes responses in class and on exams to be EXACTLY how he says them in class, so take great notes.

This professor was responsible for teaching me Torts, Apparently he did not ge the memo because all we learned was two elements of negligence and respondent superior. You have to abide by his methodology. Knowing the cases is not enough, you have to follow his way of thinking. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.

He is like the teacher from the paper chase. Get ready to be challenged like never before and you will get your feelings hurt. Don't ever Wing it in his class because he can sense it by just looking at you. Don't ever come to class without reading each case 3x. His favorite words are "articulate and internalize". His SYLLABUS IS OVER 400 PAGES!

If you put forward some effort and show that your are involved and want to learn, he will respond in kind. If you never raise a hand, answer a question, ask a question, he may not respond to your emails and such. Be prepared.

Honestly I was scared to death after the first day of his class. He's intimidating and cut throat, but he really is a great professor. Most people love him or hate him. But he is super clear about what he wants and how he wants it, no surprises. If he's saying something over and over- write it down. Hands down my favorite professor in hindsight.

Chang's class is very difficult and hard to grasp at first--don't be alarmed if you can't follow his rhetoric the first couple of weeks. If you put in the time slowly and steadily throughout the semester you will ace his exam. He may seem intimidating but he is truly an amazing and helpful person. Would absolutely take again!

He's a jerk, you'll think to yourself the first couple of weeks... fine, months. I despised him and his class. However, after you begin to know his style you'll grow to respect/like him. He ended being my favorite prof. Out of ALL the people at NYLS, this guy cares the most. Just be prepared for class and a beating or two. Don't piss him off.

You won't complete a thought without being interrupted - he has laser focus on precision with words. The focus of his class is public policy NOT substance of the law. Understand that early and you'll go far on the final. His demeanor is inimidating, but he will tell exactly what he wants to see on the final. Have to be prepared everyday.

I've been deterred from practicing criminal law. Don't ask questions; he will make you feel dumb. Chang promotes fear & anxiety--NOT learning & growth. He talks about precision and clarity but he is so wordy in speech & writing His syllabus is impossible to follow. Wish I learned crim law this semester. I tried. Its impossible to please him.

Everyday will be scary (partly because of all the rumors of how horrible he is). However he is the most clear professor in what he wants on his exam - if you take his practice exams seriously, study the sample answers you will get an A. He gives more than enough resources to understand how you need to answer a Chang exam.

I had Chang for Con Law in '04 - '05. The truth is, both those who love him and those who loathe him have valid points. On the one hand, I still appreciate Chang's emphasis on being CAREFUL in analyzing information. This does not happen nearly often enough in the real world. But at the same time, his interpersonal skills ARE often direly inept.

Very clear on what he wants on the final. Pay attention every class and DO NOT USE COMMERCIAL OUTLINES. Structure your notes and outline based on his exam questions (which are all the same type since 1990) and you will get an A. Overall great professor.
