I want to make this very clear, and I want you to take this quite literally. Anything he puts on the board can and will be on the test. Do not look at your notes, see something you think is minor, and skip over it. Because chances are, its not. You absolutely need to attend lectures and arrive to class on time to submit homework+get new homework.

Take notes and make them good. He is not gonna let you pass if you have bad notes, but if you have notes and you have questions, hes actually a really helpful professor. If you suck at taking notes on literally every small thing, dont take him.

The worst class Ive taken so far. He teaches senior level inorganic chemistry to freshmen (Honors, duh!). Wouldnt be a problem if he taught background necessary to understand the concepts. However, there isnt enough time to cram 3 years of chemistry into one semester (shocker!) and the result is disastrous. Tests- awful, but the curve saves you

Professor Hoffman is a great chemistry teacher! Although his class can be challenging, if you study all the lectures and his homework sheets, you'll do just fine. Towards the end of the semester, he gets more friendly and even cracks a few jokes.

He was so RUDE and condescending!! His lectures are okay, but his tests are hard. He finds a way to test you over minute details. He doesnt teach from the textbook and its hard to find extra practice questions or more info on the concepts we cover in class. Make sure to write down everything he says - majority of the tests are from lecture.

Dr. Hoffman is a very tough professor. You could spend hours laboring over the textbook, reviewing the homeworks, and doing practice problems and still perform mediocre at best on his exams. That said, this challenging course will significantly improve your chemistry knowledge and make you well-prepared for future chemistry courses.

Daily Homework. He gives 30 minute-10 question tests that are free response and he does not offer partial credit. He is a great teacher-explains material really well. You need to study outside of the class because he expects you to know MUCH of the info from previous classes. The class lectures I would rate 9/10, the tests and grading would be 1/10

Dr. Hoffman may seem intimidating, but he is very helpful if you ask him questions. He is very knowledgeable, so don't be afraid to go to office hours. There are 6 tests total including the final, and 2 homework assignments that are 3-4 questions long per week. The final is 40% of your grade and is 40 questions long. I highly recommend this class.

Dr. Hoffman is very chill and loves teaches Chemistry. He also knows what hes doing. Homework is twice given twice and attendance is MANDATORY. He explains very clearly and answers questions during or after class. The tests are only 30 minutes long, 10 questions. The time limitation might panic you and cause silly errors. Study the hw for the tests

To be frank, this is one of those classes where the grade you receive depends on the amount of time you put into it. It is imperative that you attend classes, do your homework and study before tests. The lectures are rather interesting and Hoffman does great job explaining the material. He is always happy to help, just make sure to ask.

Tests are hard but based on homework and class notes. There is no partial credit. Ask any questions or things you are confused about before the test because it will probably come up.

You really need a background in chemistry for this class. I didn't do any chemistry in high school and this class killed me. Also, you better get to know stress because it's your shadow in this class. Study groups help, do the practice questions, listen in lecture.

Dr. Hoffman is passionate about chemistry and it shows in his teaching. He is a very effective instructor and although he seems sort of gruff, he's really nice and always willing to help you. Best chemistry class I've ever taken. True, tests are difficult, but they really help you push yourself to learn the material inside out.

His class is very hard. The tests are crazy hard. He is very nice and helpful if you go to his office hours. But that doesn't change the fact that you're making a terrible grade because it's ridiculously hard. Don't recommend taking Honors Chem with him unless you're prepared to have no social life whatsoever.

Dr. Hoffman is in my opinion the best prof in the chem dept at UH. His office hours are literally 24/7 and is extremely helpful and nice although he SEEMS unapproachable. If u want to learn Inorg II I recommend taking it with him.I made an A. No curves so u must study hard. You'll have no worries if u r above the curve 4 each test.

He is VERY DIFFICULT but that's because the material is; there is no way to teach Chem 2 and it be easy. If you do all the practice problems in the book you should not have a hard time. He might not answer every question in class, but if you see him afterward or email him he is always extremely helpful. He really wants you to understand chemistry.

I was in his Honors Chemistry class. Wow. He is an excellent professor, although extremely tough. He was definitely a much better professor than Shiv. He gives random pop quizzes and gives you two or three minutes to do them. If you don't show up, you don't get the notes. He was very tough, but you will learn the material.
