Make sure to READ THE SYLLABUS before classes start! He will deduct points on BB for asking certain questions, and block you from BB if you do poorly on 3 HW assignments. There is no extra credit, no curve, no individual help or assessment on how you are doing in the class, and tests are taken at CASA with a basic scientific calculator.

Professor Shiv is a very straightforward professor. He goes over a lot of problems in lectures, in order to prepare us more for the homework and exams. He also is a funny professor as well, who makes very subtle jokes occasionally. If you study old exams, and do all 4 attempts of your HW and practice HW, then you can get an A. Also, join a workshop

If you struggle with chemistry, go to his lectures because he explains things easily and is always up for answering questions. Personally I dont struggle with chem so I didnt go to class. I just read the textbook and did the practice hw/tests and got an A.

He is the best option for Chem 2. His lectures are very straightforward and easy to understand. Chem 2 is mostly math so he mainly works our problems from the textbook and focuses mostly on the important topics. The best ways to study for the exams would be to work out problems from the textbook, redo the homework, and work out old exams.

Contrary to what some other reviewers have said, you do not need to read the textbook to get an A--that is, as long as you have Bott's videos. What can I say about Shiv? Nothing--because I never went to a single class. Just watch Bott's videos (google UH CHEM 1332 Bott videos Reddit) and, trust me, you will be fine, because the tests don't change.

Shiv is amazing himself, he teaches well, does practice problems in class and is funny in a dry way. The chem department however is designed to make you take the class twice if you're not spending 100% of your time on this class the first time. Regardless of who you take; no curve at all, you all take the same tests, 1 point of extra credit.

Halasyamani does a good job in helping with practice problems. But, you're not going to get a good conceptual understanding with his lectures alone, so crack open the textbook that you rented/bought/obtained and READ. If you are NOT reading you are going to have a BAD time. If you READ and max all the homework attempts, you will be fine.

Shiv's an awesome professor. Probs the best professor for Chem ll in the UH department. Chemistry ll is very math-based so if you prefer someone who teaches the math portion and doesn't go on tangents all the time, take this Prof. He's funny in a dry sarcastic way. Goes back on slides and corrects his handwriting if nobody can read it. Cool dude.

Shiv is probably the best CHEM professor I've taken at UH. His lectures help a lot since he focuses on doing practice problems. He is very accessible outside of class for any questions. He provides some extra credit opportunity which helps. He's pretty funny and cool. I would definitely recommend taking him. One of the best professors.

Shiv focuses more on solving homework problems (which helps a lot for the test). However, chemistry is not something that you can expect to get an A on just from attending lecture. Most of these reviews are bad because they didn't get everything handed to them. Follow along with the textbook and max out all your hw attempts (blackboard) and ur fine

Note this is for the honors variant of Chem 1 also known as CHEM 1331H. He is tough. Get ready to study for his class. Frankly, with ample preparation this class is probably easier than normal CHEM 1331 as it is much more math oriented as compared to concepts. The tests will be hard (50% averages), but overall grades end up normally distributed.

This class is the usual chemistry test format bs. BUT! Shiv is so good at explaining the material than the other chem 2 professors (even though he focuses more on math than theory)! If you watch the bott videos and go to his lectures youre set

Funny guy and I liked him over the other professors especially over the 1331 ones. Does a lot of practice problems to prep you for tests, although some can be too basic. Practice tests for me reflect the actual tests 70% of the time so just keep reviewing and practicing fro those and homework. I STRONGLY SUGGEST WORKSHOP, HELPED PULL ME THROUGH.

Dr. Halasyamani is a decent chemistry professor. He works out many practice problems in class although his handwriting is not the best. He moves fast but will go back and explain things in detail if you ask. The class usually got let out about 30 minutes early. Make sure you practice a lot and take a workshop if you struggle with chemistry.

Did not go to class after the first day, only studied using the homework and the practice homework. Not a difficult class at all if you study. The only reason that someone does not get an A is if they don't put in any work. Try to get tests from previous years to study from.

Chemistry is difficult but Prof. H talks about it in layman's terms. He breaks it down so it's not some abstract concept and makes it relatable. You need to do all attempts of the HW and practice HW. Also, go to tutoring in the Fleming building if you miss anything on the HW b/c it will most likely show up on the exam. It's a lot of work, but do it

I only went to class about three times and then I stopped because it was useless. I was on my own for this class. I took all four attempts on the homework, then printed them out before the test to work through them again. I found old exams on course hero and practiced on them. I would recommend other profs since this one gives no extra credit.
