I have taken Painting 1 and 2 with Ms. Onate and I love it. Painting 1 was difficult, limited time to do your paintings and can seem hard, but its all about learning control and learning your own style. Painting 2 is much more laid back, and I have learned a lot from her. Definitely reccomend this class is you love to paint. Onate is awesome!

Onate does not have one artistic bone in her body! Class was a total joke. She was constantly putting the students down, mocking their ideas, and only talking to her two favorite students. Unpleasant woman, with nothing helpful to offer a more advanced creative student.

Did not expect to like oil painting, but now want to paint with nothing else. This class exposes you to soooo many different painting techniques. Instructor is VERY helpful. Does take quite a bit of outside of classroom time to complete assignments.

Art majors who actually want to learn something, TAKE THIS CLASS. The instructor is knowledgable and excited about her subject. This is not an easy class, but the instructor is incredibly clear with her instructions and if you take good notes and study hard, you will ace the tests. Expect 8-10hrs of study/test, but NO BUSY WORK!

Very nice teacher. I had her hybrid class which was not too hard. The only difficult thing was you had to study about 80 images for the test and remember the name, period, and culture. She would then ask for 10 of them on the test. If you do not have the time to study them you wont do good. I did and I got an "A" in her class.

The exams in this class were extremely difficult but as a person, Ms. Onate is a very nice person if you take the time to get to know her. If you have questions about something on the test or any other assignments, just go to her during her office hours and she will help you out.

I had her for an online class, so I didn't get to know her personally at all, but I can just tell you it was not easy. If you plan on taking it for an easy elective - don't. The average scores on all of the tests were in the 50's. Nothing against her as a person or teacher, but the online class was not easy by any means!

I doubt anyone that has rated her harshly actually studied for a test. She has an off/on personality but I enjoyed the challenge of her class, less like a community college course and more like a university one. She curves all test grades so it's not too unfair, just be one of the ones who actually study and you'll do fine oh and don't buy the book

she was the worst teacher ive ever had in my life! so bad in fact, almost everyone made a D in her class. even the faculty call her " the ice queen". her test were hard and she talks to damn fast. i hate her and i wish she would retire.

Art is supposed to express feelings and be interpreted, not forced into the minds of college kids just so you can get a paycheck. take billingsly, hard but good teache

She is a tough teacher, but just take good notes and memorize all the slides. I suggest using flash cards. It really is interesting.
