Hes very smart, and he knows philosophy very well. He asks you to share your interpretations of texts and when you dont, he gets frustrated. When you do share your interpretation and it isnt what he was thinking, he tells you that you were wrong. He often listens without actually hearing what you have to say. Continues to talk beyond class time.

The guy won a teaching assistantship at Penn State after, as legend has it, scoring perfect on his GRE. You cannot bullsheet him. If you have an earnest interest in the subject matter, he will make every effort to help you with it. If you don't really care, then just stay out of his way.

Bro D simply put, is a Bro in every sense of the word. The readings are difficult but he does a great job of helping you make sense of them in class. His tests are solely on topics discussed in class so paying attention to his class discussions can literally be the difference between an A and a D

Br. Beach's classes merely consist of repeating the bulk of whatever reading was required for that day, making any outside efforts useless. Exams are very abstract and don't necessarily relate to what's been covered in class well. Mediocre experience. Too challenging for intro-level classes.

MUST go to class. Very opinionated. He likes to talk down to you and is not much help outside of the classroom. At least in my class he likes to make snide comments about others too. Very straightforward. Class participation is a must. Very intelligent.

I STRONGLY disagree with all negative comments! Dennis is a wonderful prof. He is very straightforward with expectations and makes it easy to get a good grade...if you work hard. if you love reading and have opinions about the material he will be a good match. i got an a simply by being a responsible student. attendance and participation are a must

I actually disagree with comments so far. He may be a little arrogant, but I find him very easy to talk to and very fair. Class discussions are great and he has fun along with the rest of the class. Perhaps it is because it is an honors class...I'm not sure. From what I've seen: great prof!

Dennis is a nice enough guy, but he was not a good professor. His class was conducted in the same manner every day (lecture and group discussion) and not graded very fairly. He made philosophy not interesting to me at all. It's difficult to figure out what he's looking for from you as a student. Take this course from someone else.

He's an overall good guy, I felt like he does pick favorites, HATES it if you miss class!! you need to read and participate, the tests are tough-you need to know EVERYTHING covered, need to take good notes. if you need help or have questions he is definetly there to help you.

Very intelligent. Knows a good deal, and I personally think he'd be more enjoyable in an upper division course over this one. Comes off a bit arrogant. Tests can be difficult since they are graded on how much subject matter you actually put into it, so you practically have to memorize every concept.

All negative comments previously stated are absolutely true; grudges, nit-picking on minute details of the class (showing up half of a second late? don't expect an A), no people skills, lectures all class and talks in circles, arrogant, and overall absolutely ridiculous.

His class is okay. He will definately challenge and you will learn from him. However if you get on his bad side you have no chance with him. He is very arrogant and has no people skills. He is the only professor that I have ever had that I feel should not be allowed to teach at CSB/SJU. Avoid at all costs.

He is a very nice guy and understands the material. He loves participation! Sometimes the class is a bit difficult, but it's not too bad. He is happy to help anyone and if you have a question go to his office and ask him he will explain everything and you will do great on the test!

I took his lib. thought class spring 2005 and it was his first time teaching it. It was quite bad. He didn't know how to structure class nor teach the material in a helpful way. Dennis loves to talk about word roots so be prepared for some etymology. He teaches metaphysics fairly well, though it's tough if you have a limited philo background.

Dennis comes off as a nice guy and tries to be, but the way he teaches makes class difficult. He lectures all hour and its tough to stay awake. I recommed switching out or else get on his good side early.

Good stuff, liberation thought, he's really into it. Good to have a background on Colonialism, Cold War history, international relations, and economics. The class could be quite abstract with little background in those.
