He's good at lectures. You don't need the textbook. He's such a tough grader though. I studied my butt off and still didn't get the grade I wanted. Take him if he's your only option, but otherwise take it from someone else. Your GPA will thank you.

He's a good teacher but he was very disrespectful to the professor he cotaught with, often cutting into her designated time and talking over her.

I loved Downing!! Micro can be difficult for some but Downing is the best prof for the class. He offers extra credit and is so sweet and really wants everyone to do well. He even brought everyone cinnamon rolls for the final.

The subject is dry and a bit difficult but Downing genuinely wants you to succeed. Go to his office hours if you are struggling. He will give you everything you need to do well. You definitely need to put some effort in this class but it is totally doable. If you work decently hard, you should get an A!

Downing is great & so smart! If you need help, go to his office hours and he will literally reteach weeks worth of info for you. He gives you everything you need to pass his class. The study guides are exactly the exams. He doesn't give busy work (no hw!) which is great but there also won't be a buffer for your grade. He's a weird dude but so nice!

Doug Downing is the sweetest man. Really cares about his students and has a genuine passion for teaching. Class is really test heavy and the exams are decently hard but you will learn a lot.

Dr. Downing is a great professor. His lectures are a little boring but I also don't know how anyone could make statistics fun. I failed the first exam but ended with an A in the class so if you attend and ask questions, he will teach you what you need to know. I would definitely take his classes again.

Econ is a tough subject and Downing knows this and puts in a ton of effort to make it better. His lectures are really good and helpful. The textbook definitely helps and you will get better grades on the tests if you're reading it but you would be fine without also. Overall I would recommend him, he's a really caring person and great educator.

Professor Downing is an amazing professor. His lectures were organized and usually really interesting but at times they can get a little boring. He has a clear grading criteria. There are some group projects and a couple assignments. A majority of the grade is from the exams but he provides an exam study sheet not making the exam too hard.

He's a horrible grader. He will take off a ton of points for the simplest math calculation. There is no book or powerpoint from which students can refer to. He uses some other program to teach which doesn't even work half the time and is just a bunch of numbers all over the place. Definitely do not recommend.

I graduated 20+ years ago with a Mathematics-Economics degree from SPU. I can't believe Dr. Downing is still teaching. He is a brilliant professor! I'm realizing that now as I pursue my Executive MBA program from Saint Mary's College. My Economics professor in the graduate program doesn't even compare. Thank you Dr. Downing!

Class was tough, but Downing gives you the opportunities to really understand the material. Spend your time understanding the practice tests because the problems are similar on the actual tests. Grasp the concepts and the tests are easy.

I know he teaches a pretty boring subject, but he does absolutely nothing to make it interesting. We did the exact same thing everyday and when he did switch it up he didn't make it clear why were doing it. He also grades extremely hard on exams.

Downing is by far my favorite Prof at SPU. He is extremely corky, in a good way and his exams can be easy if you do the practice exams and hand-outs that he gives you. He is probably one of the most dedicated Profs at SPU and loves his students. Take him!

Great prof, crazy smart and does everything in his power to make the material interesting and understandable. Straight lecture class with no daily homework. I bought the companion workbook (not required) and used that for review which helped a lot more than the actual textbook (which I never even opened). Tests from lecture and library readings.
