This class is completely memorization-based. Dr. Maxwell's lectures are clear and organized, and he always welcomes you into office hours. But don't make him mad by coming in late or talking in class. If you take the time to study for it every day and start reviewing in advance for exams, you will do very well.

Comment:

SUPER KNOWLEDGABLE . He lectures from memory and everything is so precise and organized it's amazing. He has a great sense of humor but can be angry at times--mostly when you're late to class. Tests are fair, but there's a lot of volume to cover. He presents the materials in an engaging manner and always interacts with students.

Comment:

I took his class Summer 2014 and it was easily one of the best classes I took. He was always willing to answer questions. For the lab portion of our class, he would put up a powerpoint for us and then record a video of the powerpoint with him explaining the details. Super helpful. His tests are hard but if you study, you will do well!

Comment:

Thorough, hilarious lecturer. Don't show up to class late, make loud noises, talksleep during lecture. Tests based on lectures. Textbook used for required readings sometimes. Makes grading errors on answer keys, but in the end, test scores are corrected. You will have to work for a good grade in this class. His last semester teaching 71 I think.

Awesome lecturer. Straight forward, but very detailed, specific, and quite difficult tests. All multiple choice. Curve was extremely generous and I was very surprised and pleased with my grade. He's funny and engaging. Don't take alongside ochem if possible.

Tough class. You may feel confident going into the exams but then you will be tested on some minute detail you don't know. By the middle of the term he actually encouraged a third of the class to drop to avoid a fail grade. You must study very hard and don't overlook any detail to pass his class.

Definitely a class you can succeed in. He is a superb and concise lecturer; gets to the point and keeps it simple. One of the smartest men you'll ever meet. He loves his histo class because it is small and nobody disrupts him. He's jolly and funny so keep him in a good mood. I thought lab exams were hard, but just memorize notes for lecture tests.

great organization and lecture style. difficult test just because of the detail/content. not much wiggle room if memorization is not your thing. i dislike his temper sometimes and the fact that he can't stand noise but it's not too bad overall. just don't push it....

Good teacher but you MUST show up to all lectures and listen and write down every single word. Make sure to do ALL the readings in detail. Not an easy class. Study in advance and if any errors on the exam, e-mail him ASAP & get the grade you deserve! Very funny professor.

Maxwell is an excellent lecturer and a very smart man. I, however, would recommend taking another professor if it fits into your schedule. All his tests are cumulative and each question is extremely detailed. A group of students pissed him off and he made our 3rd exam the hardest he has ever given. Be sure to do all the required readings.

u can easily get an A if you're superb at memorizing. i studied my butt off and did not do so hot (got a C). i dont think the all-MC tests are fair. each question (although straightforward) is so specific and worth so much, it's easy to lose points. take amazing notes and learn readings/lecture word for word.

Really intelligent and funny teacher. That being said. His class is HARD if you're bad at 1) Paying attention, 2) Notetaking 3) attending class. Otherwise it is easy. I never attended lecture and when I did, I took terrible notes. (got a B+) If you can take Anderson. He does powerpoints just memorize and not pay attention/go to class.

He is REALLY REALLY nice. Even though his tests are cumulative now, they are extremely straight forward and come straight off his notes and assigned readings. Very helpful in his office too!

I really liked this professor and I actually enjoyed the class...It was never too boring and it's the only BIO class I've liked so far. Just study all his notes and read the assigned readings and you should do well on the tests. No cumulative final!!!! and lab is easy

Very funny. However, don't get him mad 'cause it won't be pretty. In his non-mad mode, he's really awesome. How many professor can lecture w/o any notes?? His test are straightforward so make sure you memorize the lectures and readings.

Dr. Maxwell is a great professor. He not only cares about the sutdents, but he knows what its like to be in our shoes. He treats every student equally and fair. He is approachable after class and deserves a raise for his intellect. I liked Dr. Maxwell so much that I chose to take two more classes with him in the Spring '06 semester.
