This class was alright. He's not a bad professor and can explain everything well, it's just that his class get's boring quickly. It was hard for me to pay attention for the full 1 hour and 20 minutes. DO NOT miss this class. If you miss one day, it will honestly set you back the whole semester. The class is boring, but it's important to go.

If you do the short hw readings, class is simple. If not, no biggie unless there is a pop quiz but those aren't too hard. The tests are take home (but 12 page essays) and the in class test he gives you the question weeks beforehand and you bring notes. I got above a 97 on all tests, easy easy grader just use the lectures online!!

Great Professor! If you like philosophy you should definitely take one of his advanced courses. Brilliant guy and lots of in class discussion. He left 2 long take home tests, but he is a fair grader. Doing the readings will definitely help, but if you pay attention in class they're not necessary.

Guy is a genius, potentially overqualified to teach a 1300 class. Not super engaging and overly complicates material. WATCH THE VIDEOS ON THE SYLLABUS. Makes material incredibly simple. Funky grading system too. If you're good with math you'll be fine. If not, it's not a huge deal, just need to work a little more. Not incredible but not terrible

If you don't naturally have a "logical" mind, then you will likely not enjoy or succeed. If you do have a logical mind (you know who you are), then you will find it interesting and engaging. I found him to be a good communicator (with a similar sense of humor as me). He's clear on what will be tested on, and it's your job to practice it. Good prof.

I would not recommend Prof. Ehring to anyone. The material he uses in class is not his own - you can find the PPTs on Google. He reads directly off the slide and gets bored teaching (he announces it in class). Syllabus is not downloadable, was not helpful when I asked for it, grades are not clearly communicated with you. Stay away!

If you are a logical person this class is super easy. It is similar to math in the sense that if you get it, you really won't have to study much and you will make an A. He teaches the material in class very well and provides optional videos for extra help. I actually really enjoyed this class. It can be extremely hard if you don't get it, though.

This class is so so easy if you are a logical person (I am a mechanical engineering major and I never had to study for this class), but if you struggle with logic then this class will be a big effort, so many people dropped.. either you are really good or really bad at this class I guess

The worst professor I have ever had at SMU. He doesn't respond to emails, does not post grades online, and rarely gives back tests. His handwriting is at a 6th grade level and he ridicules students in front of the entire class to the point where multiple people have dropped because of it. 46 people have dropped from my class if that says anything.

I received 88-95s on every exam, yet even if I get a 100 on the final, I can not get an A in this class. Giant flaw in his grading system. He does not respond to emails. Exams are 95% of the class and homework is completion. He can be funny in class but also very sassy. Homework every night with videos that you are required to watch.

For an intro class, he does a good job. The material is not to hard and he goes through it enough times in class, and call you out, to make sure you get it. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you go to class, it will seriously make the class an easy A. He isn't boring and isn't mean. Overall, pretty good deal.

Not a difficult class, does not take attendance but homework is due every class. He is funny and really easygoing. There were 4 tests and a final. Grading scale is a bit weird but it is an easy philosophy credit. Ehring has a dry sense of humor but he made me laugh so hard I was almost crying! I want to take I'm for intermediate logic.

Interesting, but you have to be into it. It's like learning a new language and you have to learn how to speak it fluently in order to keep up. Learning the language is not hard if you are willing to put in about an hour a week into this class.

If you're taking this just for an easy Phil perspective- don't. Intro to Phil & CMP are easier. That said, Ehring is a pretty good teacher and explains logic well. However, his grading is very frustrating as he only gives full letter grades (A,B,C) on tests. So getting a 100 is no different than a 90 as they curve to the same thing.

Elementary Logic is very much like Algebra or other forms of math. If you do not enjoy math or are not good at math, avoid Elementary Logic.

I went into Elementary Logic not knowing what to expect. The first day started and I was terrified. But after a while I realized that the material isn't that hard at all. Prof. Ehring is extremely helpful, even spending whole class periods to go over homework. Another plus is that he constantly has the class laughing with his dorky jokes.

Had him for metaphysics, which is a very difficult phil. class and did fine regurgitating what I read in the various readings, being that all he had was take home essay tests. Great guy, loves his philosophy. I enjoyed class although I didn't go all the time cause he loves it so much. If your not a dumbass you can get an A.

I can't emphasize enough how much I loved his logic class. He's very emotional and logical at the same time, which is priceless. I miss his class, I actually cherished the final exam as the last of a subject I discovered and adored. I can't wait to learn more logic and I hope Intermediate Logic is offered before I graduate.
