We got off to a good start, I had some problems with grammatical errors and visited her weekly for them. She would give me a change to fix them and change my grade. Each time after fixing the essays I would get a C. I literally do not understand how to get a higher grade in this class. She would proof read each essay, but EACH time they were a D...

You will never really know what is going on this class. She gets off topic all the time and you never know your grade throughout the course. When she grades your paper you will only get a letter grade meaning you will not know your percentage overall. She expects everyone to have the same writing style knowing that everyone is different.

At first this class was fine. However, if she doesnt like your style of writing then you are not going to do well in the class. I will not be taking anymore classes from this professor. I would not recommend her to anyone in the future. My gpa took a big hit because of Dr. G and her grading.

PLEASE do not take this class!! The course itself is very rigorous and is not worth all the effort if you are not an English major! I tried SO hard but did not do well! I went to her office hours and asked her about my grade, but it is IMPOSSIBLE for her to be happy. She wants a specific writing style that I just couldn't meet :( Save yourself..

I honestly have never had that bad of an English teacher. I went from being one of the best writers in my class all throughout high school and through ENG 111, to failing the final research paper! When I went to her office for help to rewrite, she was defensive about her grading even when I was asking for clarity for why it is wrong. Never Again!

Dr. G is AMAZING! Always there to provide help during office hours. I was in her office at least once a week. Use the learning center to help with grammar and make sure you do the grammar homework. She holds super high standards for students that leave you no choice, but to rise up leading you to become a better writer. This class changed me.

Very tough grader- not the kind of class where you can pop out a paper the night before it's due. But she is available during office hours and very willing to help and gives great feedback. Requires actual effort, but the class is very simple if you follow directions and understand what's expected. She is very knowledgeable and wants you to do well

Dr. Grathwohl is one of the toughest graders, yet one of the most understanding, down to earth professors I have ever come to know. She has seen my potential and has pushed me to do my very best, as a writer, and I can't thank her enough for that. She is very hard, but she has prepared me for her ENG200 class next semester and I am so grateful.

Dr. Grathwohl is the PERFECT teacher for higher level english classes and students with a real interest in English. With that said, I do not suggest taking her for any class that you are taking to meet a gen-ed requirement. She expects too much.

Oh Grathy...definitely one of my favorite English profs! She drastically improved my writing abilities and was extremely helpful when I got stuck with something. She always helped me find a way to incorporate my passion into the paper topics. I'd recommend her to anyone who struggles with English papers simply because she is SO helpful!!!

She is the sweetest woman in the world. I love that lady and I totally disagree with the other people who say that she plays favorites. She will help you if you ask for it... but if you don't make any effort, she won't make any effort to help you. She is one of my favorite teachers this semester

I did not like her at first, but then I began to warm up to her as the class went on. The way in which she grades cannot by any means be described as easy, but she helps you one-on-one if you go see her during her office hours (and your grades will most likely reflect it!).

She is a very nice woman, and is very devoted to her students. She knows grammar like no one else and is willing to share her knowledge. If you have trouble with grammar or writing, you can always go to her for help. She loves helping people, and she loves teaching others.
