Comment:

She's very nice as a person, definitely get to know her. Being on a more personal level will help you, as well as going in for extra help, even if you don't need it. Very strict grader and doesn't give much feedback at all, which is a little frustrating. Go to class, participation is part of your grade.

Comment:

I absolutely loved my American Literature II class. I loved her teaching style of opening up the ffloor to anyone who wanted to comment or share their opinions. She was very respectful and seemed to know a lot in that content area. Be ready to go to class prepared, which means a lot of reading/analyzing, and be involved in group/class discussions.

She is a Women's Studies professor who teaches English for some reason. You can expect long and boring lectures where she often repeats herself. The assignments are very strange and confusing.

Comment:

Demaray was a great English teacher. She likes to get the class involved using modern day topics. I enjoy English and writing. Her grading is very reasonable. If you make an effort to get to know her a little bit, it will go a long way. Very kind and respectable woman. Get ready to read some stories and write a few papers. Put in effort and enjoy.

She was a very personable teacher who led class discussions more than just straight lectured and I really liked it. It's one of those classes that also depends on who else is in it with you. If you have boring classmates, you will have a boring class. Homework and tests are pretty standard of an English class.

I liked Professor Demaray, and though lectures sometimes got boring and long, she did a good job trying to keep the class interesting. Reading assignments were definitely manageable. The research paper was a bit of a pain, and there are essay tests (along with some multiple choice), but if you pay attention and study you'll be fine.

She is the best professor I have had by far! She got the entire class interested in the subject(s) at hand and truly taught all of us the basics of how to write really great papers for future English classes. She was also funny and was able to get the entire class involved and excited...really great teacher who I would definitely recommend.

She is the nicest and easiest professor I think I have had at Iowa State. Don't listen to the other people. She is a very fair grader and is incredibly helpful. I dislike American Literature and she actually made it interesting and not seem too repetitive theme wise for the class. Take a class with her!

Comment:

I didn't want to take English again, but Prof. Demaray proved to be helpful when I needed assistance on papers and projects. She was a fairly easy grader, but sometimes would be picky on topics where "you could choose". By the end of class, I appreciated how class helped tighten up my writing. This class is time consuming, like any Eng course.

She's a suprisingly difficult grader and her assignments are often poorly explained. She's very hard to get a hold of and waits until the starting time of class to email the students about a cancellation. She has mood swings and says inappropriate things without thinking. She's flaky.

Dr. Demaray is an excellent teacher! She truly cares about the students - she will make time to look over your paper with you so that you know what is going on. She is a pretty hard grader but it really pays off in the grand scheme of things. - She also extended the deadline for a paper so that we could attend the Honors Retreat w/o worries!

Class can get a little boring at times when there is not much discussion, but she does her best to encourage good discussion. She's willing to help out with papers, allowed revisions, and was willing to give me extra time when I was late for a midterm because I overslept!
