Worst professor I have ever had. His lectures were extremely unclear and his exam was the worst I've ever written. 90% of what he covered in class and in the reading were not on the exam, so studying so hard for it was a huge waste of time. AVOID!

Prof. Mendes is extremely willing to meet with students and work on their progress. After having doubts about whether the study of law was actually for me, he truly rekindled my interest in the study of law. Guest lectures were rewarding - he always asked his guests to explain how they stumbled into law and their current positions, which is great.

Comment:
Professor Mendes gives a very thorough review of the law. His Business Organizations class was well-organized and he was able to cover an incredible expanse of material in a fairly straightforward way. He is also very approachable outside of class and willing to help students with difficulties. Finally, his grading was fair and predictable.

Comment:
Mendes was a good prof for a dry subject. He has a really long set of slides covering the entire semester but he actually taught us so those who relied on the slides did poorly. He used a lot of examples/hypothetical problems that reflected the readings. You learn / do well if you do the readings and participate.

Avoid like the plague. Had him for public international. Reads from his notes, incredibly dry. Uses socratic. Political opinions everywhere. Assumes a high degree of incoming knowledge. Dismissive and arrogant.

I really enjoyed Prof. Mendes' "Globalization and Law" class. He was an extremely knowledgeable lecturer who guided class discussions and encouraged active and experiential learning. I highly recommend his course for those completing their major paper, as Prof. Mendes has clear expectations, is a fair marker, and provides great feedback.

His lectures are extremely hard to follow. Definitely be sure to do the reading because that is where you will get most of your understanding. His lectures are just to build on what you should already know.

Very interesting and engaging class. Prof wants students to engage and be able to create a dialogue. He allows you to develop your own ideas and learn how to argue them. He does not make his students conform their ideas to a "right answer", but instead encourages meaningful analysis of the issues and how to argue them

I feel like I really understood the material and that his expectations are clear. He is always helpful if need to ask clarifying questions in class, and really tries to give students an in-depth study of the material as opposed to just making the students memorize everything under the sun. Would take another class with him.

BEST professor of my law school career!!! Professor Mendes met and exceeded my expectations. He clearly knows his stuff and he relays it with such clarity and is always available for help if you need it. The exam was more than fair, and if you do the work you will do amazing. I would recommend his Bus Orgs class in a heartbeat.

One of the best Con I profs in U of O. Very helpful, very passionate about the subject, and always available to help if any student is in need. Exam was totally fair, and all Con I exams are 100% (to respond to other posts). Very excited to take a course with him next year.

A good professor who's interested in philosophical aspects of con-law. He relies extensively on the Hogg text (not used by other sections) with his own perspective added in. Lectures sometimes seem unstructured, but are interesting and thought provoking. Biggest complaint was that exam didn't allow time for the type of analysis allegedly expected.

Impossible exam worth 100%. Mere act of writing the exam is a limiting factor. Class average less than B. Run far and fast from this one.

The exam in this class was the single most unfair exam I have ever written in my entire life. it was impossible to answer the questions well and still finish the exam. When picking courses, run away from this man.
