Kerner is incredibly difficult to work with. In class she is okay, but good god stay far away when working on mainstage shows. She has no respect for the design choices of students, and will tell you how to do things despite not knowing anything about the design. Stay away.

I actually looked forward to attending this class much of the time. And I found Kerner to be a wonderful, warm and very insightful professor and director. During in class performances, she would be respectful and listen to different opinions and viewpoints, while providing helpful, valuable criticism and direction.

She is absolutely a wonderful professor who cares about her students and their learning. She is the best theater prof. you can take at MSU, and is an amazing director and clearly passionate about what she does. She makes class easy to understand and fun! If you take theater classes, take her!

Susan Kerner is an incredibly poor teacher. She is a crappy director with limited vision & utter refusal to hear the ideas of her students. In her Dir classes you are not encouraged to think outside the box, but are penalized for trying your won new ideas. She is also obsessed with sexuality in shows, as she has no better vision for quality. Poor.

Very insecure, so make sure you always compliment her. If you don't agree with her, you're wrong. I found her to be insipid and useless. Has no control over the class, but she feels like she is the end-all-be-all. Worthless.

I love this woman so much. She is so nice and sweet but can still command the classroom. I think that she agrees with us that the class is a total waste of time but she makes the best of it and tries to make it a good time. I cant wait to work with her on a show!

Susan Kerner is a darling woman. This class is a cake walk for anyone however don't treat it like a bird course. You need to be in attendance, on-time and do a minimal amount of reading. She's nice but doesn't get walked all over by any means.

Kerner is kind of a control freak. she will even admit that. take HER direction well in terms of class requirments and you will get an A. Read the Bloom book; it's the only way to pass the quizzes.

susan is a decent directing teacher, but a tactless and classless person. she will insult actors in front of the class for no reason, and just generally tends to do and say very cringe-worthy things. can't stand her. plus when she actually directs mainstage shows, she just rips off other directors ideas and WAY over-rehearses her actors.

Susan is a great director. She holds her ground, so you need to justify your choices. I learned so much in this class. ACT IN THE OTHER SCENES FOR EXTRA CREDIT!!!!! Read the book to ace the exams and make sure the promt book is clear and organized well.

directing is time consuming, but kerner keeps it interesting. she will rip apart your blocking (sometimes your whole scene) to open your mind and make it better, but she does it nicely. the William Ball (directing 2) book is amazing. keep your prompt book organized.

Comment:

Easy class for anyone who knows anything about Theatre. Professor Kerner is a really caring woman who's fun to listen to. Take this class if you want to learn some new things about Theatre in general and for an easy grade.
