Dr. Marouf's classes are absolutely the best way in the country to get exposed to the rigors of advanced DSP theory at the graduate level without paying MIT/Stanford tuition, hands down. The topics are challenging, but the DSP/comms skillset is one of the most hireable in the EE curriculum. Also, Dr. Marouf is a member of Cassini's RSS team.

Comment:

The best professor I took as SJSU. Very detailed lectures. You will need to study hard because he covers a lot of material, but there will be no surprises on exams if you fully understand lecture notes and homework assignments. You'll work hard for a good grade, but he's a great teacher. It helps to review the lecture notes before each class.

I cannot talk about the whole EE department, but he is by far the best professor of my life! He is knowledgeable in all courses he teaches, very smart with great personality, and ultimately makes you learn a lot from his course.

He is very knowledge about DSP. The homework could overwhelm you specially when you have a full-time job, but you must figure out a way to complete them because they are key to the exams and understanding materials. He is very approachable and helpful. My suggestion is take the class under him if you really want to learn DSP.

In my years at San Jose State University, this is by far the best professor I have come across. His Knowledge in his field is extremely wealthy, He has a passion for teaching and passing his knowledge. If you want to know depth about signal processing and DSP this is the person you should take a class under!!

His lecture is very clear, organized, and easy to follow. The only reference is his hand writing notes, which is extremely useful. The periodically homework load is considerable but it is the key for preparing exams.

It was a pleasure attending his class. An excellent Professor! He has a great depth in DSP, and knows concepts very well. If one has a passion to learn DSP, I strongly recommend taking this course under him. The course deals with advance concepts in DSP and is theoritical. But one has to learn these concepts before venturing into DSP applications.

He's good at teaching, but the class is ridiculously hard. The other reviews aren't exaggerating, the homeworks take 10+ hours. The exams are incredibly hard. Classes always run 15 minutes over. I would avoid this class unless you eat and breathe DSP and want to commit an inhuman amount of time to get a B.

Prof Marouf is the most systematic professor I have ever seen.Teaches the subject from fundamentals.Exams test our fundamentals rather than unnecessary long calculations..If we are here to pursue our Masters,one must take a class under this excellent professor.He is the most approachable professor who treats his students with dignity.The best prof.

Very good professor. Really knows subject well. Yet very aproachable, and cares about helping students. Gives a ridiculous amount of homework. But prepares you well for tests which are very doable given you did all the homeworks. Overall don't hestitate to take him if you want to learn dsp.
