I loved Professor Miller's class! He's passionate about subject matter, which made it exciting for me to dig deeper. The way to do well in his class is to read the plays before the start of the discussion as there may be a quiz, participate and write notes since what he shares in class will come up for the midterm/final. Would take him again.

I really enjoyed Miller's class. He lays out exactly what he expects of his students in the syllabus: you'll be reading a lot of plays, you'll be taking quizzes after each play, you'll be expected to write essays. He's incredibly passionate about the theater. If you have the chance, take him, but only if you anticipate on doing the work he expects

Lectures were somewhat boring but if you participate they're bearable. He doesn't give a clear grading scale but the best way to earn a good grade is through showing improvement. Pop quizzes but they do not weigh heavily on your grade. However, there is a lot of reading and short papers. Exams are doable if you take good notes and do close readings

Worked hard all semester long, watched all the movies and studied for Midterm and Final. Asked for help on how to improve papers, constantly received C on them. Participated frequently and never skipped class. I think I did every thing in my power and still managed to obtained a C+. He is not a good professor, would not take again.

If you want to spend HOURS carefully proofreading your papers, only to receive C's on them (although he claims C's are given based on grammatical errors and not individual opinions), then by all means, take this tyrant's class! He gives quizzes every week on the most obscure scenes and characters in the western films. Thank God it's almost over!

DO NOT TAKE HIM. He will drain you, degrade you, and overall just be a jerk to his students. His tests are near impossible to pass unless you've re-watched the films 4+ times. The amount of effort he expects from his students does absolutely not meet the level of difficulty his class should represent. I don't know how he's still on the payroll.

Absolutely horrible professor. As with other reviews posted, he does have a passion for literature and films, but that does not mean that the class should be required to share his same enthusiasm. He graded extremely unfairly and subjectively. He probably "gets off" to reading poor reviews from his students.. That's just the kind of guy he is.

Comment:
Absolutely horrible professor, there are not enough negative adjectives in the English dictionary to describe Gabriel Miller. He believes that a "C" is average for his class and a great grade. Exams require rewatching 18+ hours of films, not knowing specifics. Effort put into class is the equivalent of two classes, unrealistic expectations.

Just no. Dont do it unless you share the same brain, expertise, and interest as he does. Other than that be prepared for a long frustrating semester of getting no where using your OWN thoughtsbrain.

DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR, YOU WILL FAIL! As a student I have to respect his passion for literature but he is a tough grader, if you do not write what he believes in, you won't get a good grade. He does not go over the plays until the day that your papers are due. If you do taking him, go to the writing center even if you are a good writer.

RUN!!!! Do NOT take him! Can't believe he's even allowed to teach at a University. He prepares students to fail, never succeed. Seriously though, don't take him. He doesn't grade fairly, his midterm and final are ridiculous, and if you don't write EXACTLY what he believes you will fail...stay clear away from this "professor!"

Avoid taking this class. He runs this class like a dictator. If you dont conform to what he is teaching you will fail. i busted my ass in both midterms and finals and he failed me in both because i had a different view of how i interpreted the books.

Terrible professor. He is not open to anyone else's opinions. If your papers do not say exactly what he says in class, then you will not pass. He assigns a paper, and then starts teaching the play the day the paper is due. I would highly recommend everyone to avoid his class like the plague. I dropped it because it was a waste of my time.

This professor is NOT helpful and doesn't want you to think for yourself. The key to a good grade is to regurgitate his lectures back to him...doesn't want student participation...doesn't even like students much. I was really upset about my grade - the final in my master's pursuit - until I read here that he's a notorious sadist. I worked hard! :(

Figured it would be cool to take Western and Gangster films. He's a horrible teacher and makes the films so over-complicated. You have to write papers and unless you are a star film critic or really abstract writer, you'll get at best a C on your papers. AVOID THIS CLASS!!!!!
