This is my third time taking Nagaoka, and my third time loving her class and her. You can feel her passion about things and shes knowledgeable about so much. Sometimes the homework feels overwhelming cause theres an assignment due almost every class, but its usually pretty short and super interesting. Overall recommend any of her classes.

Dr. Nagaoka is the best professor I have ever had. She assigned homework, but the homework was always easy. I highly recommend taking GEOG 2110 with Dr. Nagaoka. She is very down to earth and truly cares for her students well being and success.

Shes really chill but this class requires a lot of work. Her lectures are sort of boring. Homework due almost every class so you have to show up

Dr. Nagaoka is a pretty awesome professor, I had her for Geog 3420 as well. She does a lot of group projects and homework but it's all really easy and she is constantly willing to work with you and help you. If you show you're willing to put in the work and that your passionate about geography she will definitely help you out with anything.

Dr. Nagaoka is a sweet and an eloquent professor. She makes learning difficult biogeog concepts very easy. Most of the class is lecture-based so get ready to write good notes as she has lecture quizzes. Your grade largely depends on reading articles about that wk's topic biogeog. Hard but doable! Group project is not bad and helps cement it all.

Her grading system is very unclear but she makes you work. One of the best professors I've had though. She'll make you question your career goals a lot but she's there to help.

Lots of great information from someone who really knows the subject matter, but the overall scattered and poorly put together class makes the material forgettable. Weekly readings, while interesting, are little more than busy work in an attempt to initiate class discussions. Use of an arbitrary grading system and group project didn't help either.

Comment:
Unclear grading criteria, her expectations are often way too high and she doesn't tell you what she wants until you've already turned something in. She doesn't help outside of class and just assigns a TON of busywork. Something is due every day in class and you'll be working on at least 3 projects at any given time.

Comment:
The basis of your grade in this class is just busy work. She assigns huge loads of homework and projects that feel pointless and redundant. Her grading system is complicated (instead of a numerical value you get checks and pluses) so you can never track your own grade. If you don't like working in groups this isn't the class for you.

I hated this class. No one ever knew what was going on or what was due. She has you doing 3-4 projects at a time on top of a reading assignment due every class, and it isn't clear what she wants. No tests, all projects/presentations/reports. You have to work really hard to get a mediocre grade.

Dr. Nagaoka explains the difficult subjects very well, and she is always happy to shift how she is explaining something to appeal to different thought processes. There are reading assignments due nearly every single day, and there are a few other assignments and projects throughout the semester. This is a great class!

Dr. Nagaoka is awesome! She is very laid back, and this class is great to help you learn how to do research properly. However, you have reading assignments due nearly every single day, as well as projects and other assignments pretty frequently. If you don't procrastinate, it's not too bad!

This is a very easy class that can either be very beneficial for your future course work and career, or you can brush it off and not learn a thing. Do all of the reading assignments online they are basically graded off participation. Projects are very easy but it is group work, so choose partners wisely. Presentations are a must.

Comment:
Dr. Nagaoka is very knowledgeable, and engaging with the class. She is good humored and encourages class discussion. However, be prepared for extreme amounts of busy work, and confusing grading policies. Grades are not posted, and are often split with the TA, so it can be difficult to tell how you are doing in the class.

This is a required course for all Geography majors. It may seem scary considering the work load, but is not as bad as it seems. There will be a reading assignment due at the start of every class. If you go to every class and pay attention, you should get at least a B.

It is challenging because of all the readings(it's kind of complicated, but not really), but you don't need to buy the book because she gives you links on BB. Come to class, take notes, ask questions, DO THE HOMEWORK and you should do just fine(made an A).

Lisa is awesome! She is so funny and very approachable. She wants you to succeed. I took her for my pre-capstone class and although the material was sometimes boring, she's good at preparing you for Capstone (I say this after I have taken 4800). Strong, independent woman...it definitely shows.
