He is a good professor, but he didn't do much teaching himself, he assigned the majority of the important topics to student presentations, and then never covered the topics himself. I found it difficult to write a paper on a topic that wasn't found in the book, and wasn't ever talked about by the professor.

very nice fellow - a bit of the 'shy nerd' air about him, but very open once you talk to him.

Gerd offers a unique perspective on recent American History because he comes from Germany and did most of his schooling there. His classes are very discussion based. Be prepared to share your thoughts in class. Overall, Concordia University in Portland has a solid humanities department with accessible professors who are willing to work with you.
