Pretty straightforward class. Show up and take notes. Examples from the notes look like the hw. No textbook used. Smart guy, decent teacher. Grading curve was unclear but lenient.

Comment:
Really difficult course. Professor is very nice, but his teaching style does not suit this material. The book was confusing as well. Homework was very tough. The curve is very friendly because most students did extremely poorly on exams.

Comment:
Confusing lectures for a confusing subject. Homeworks require piecing together information from the book, lecture and other resources. Tests are difficult but a note card is allowed and curve is generous. I spent time on the homework, simplified things to myself and got an A.

Comment:
Nice guy but teaching style is not very good. Doesn't really give good examples to help students understand the concepts. Test averages were in the 40s and HW assignments were very confusing. Didn't really follow the book, which was very confusing itself. The only good thing about the course is that the curve is very generous.

Comment:
Textbook used was unsuitable for an intro course, more suited for someone taking an actuarial exam. Professor is nice, but course material presentation was weak, needed more clear examples and explanations to compensate for weak textbook. As such, HW was very confusing. Would recommend taking this course with different professor and textbook.

The textbook was useless, the exam averages were around 43 and the homework was confusing... take this class online with another professor. he is nice but as a teacher he is not good.

Comment:
Did not use the book at all. Material presented in a very confusing way. Nobody fails who actually tries, but people who try harder feel cheated because the grades don't well reflect the additional effort. He is a nice person, but really should write his own book, instead of teaching from memory and old notes. Expect to be confused.

I took Fixed Income Math with him, and honestly, the class was taught as well as it could have been. Take the class if you are interested in basic finance principles and you have a strong math foundation. Attend all classes, for there is no textbook, so to complete the homeworks, taking notes from class are a must.

Good professor. Recitations are mandatory. Tests aren't especially hard if you do the work, lots of examples and theory. Does some simple proofs on the board.

If you want to learn the material then you need to go to the recitation sections. Two Exams, 1 Final, 10 quizzes(in recitation). Exams and quizzes are pretty straight forward. If you do hw and study regularly then you will do fine.
