I liked Gordon. The guy sticks to Chapter materIal , subjects shared by fellow faculty and students. The guy graduated 4 years of Public speaking and Philosophy school without resorting his students and alumnae to less then decent ways of making a living. Great teacher and solid choice.

The class is easy if you read. Crammed the night before for every test and received an A, he lets you take a cheat sheet into the test. In class it seems like he drones on, but I spoke to him before class one day and he is actually very intelligent and passionate about his field of work. Giant paper due at the end. Learned a lot, he was fair.

Dr. Fox has to be the WORST professor at USF! Take this as a reference point: I almost failed this class and I have a 3.8 GPA. He lectures about things that aren't on the test and his questions all have more than one correct answer so you have to select the best answer in "his opinion". If you go to class and take notes it won't help you. AVOID!

Exams are by material covered, we got through about 12 of the syllabus material during the term and were tested on just that. Quizzes might jump ahead in the material. You must memorize 2-3 chapters and 1-2 book sections as well as lecture material per exam. Lectures are slow, Dr. Fox spends most time answering off-topic questions by students.

For a student who always studies for an exam and shows up to class, I still thought this class was harder than it was supposed to be. If I would have known his tests were going to be so hard I wouldn't have taken this prof...

Dr. Fox is incredibly knowledgeable and a very nice man to boot. He's there to help. Some of the homework and exam questions can be vague and tricky, so it's important to take thorough in-class notes. There are only a handful of quizzes and exams--every grade you receive is worth a lot. The co-requisite lab is laborious and frustrating.

Dr. Fox has a huge ego, andafter people stopped paying attention to his boring lectures, he stopped giving us notes, expecting us to keep up with his super fast verbal "lecturing" (rambling) & be able to write it down. Tests were much harder than the material required. Lab was the most miserable, work intensive 1 credit class I've ever been thru.

This was the worst class I have ever taken in my life. I am a senior bio major with a 3.8, and this class was absolute torture. Dr. Fox is completely incompetent and unhelpful, the exams are not remotely related to the lecture material. The only reason I have taken this class is to graduate, and all it has taught me is that I hate ecology.

This was my 1st semester @ USF. Prior 2 it I read the comments below & took him anyway. He was my only option. & now I see what everyone is talking about lol. I must agree, the labs are a bit unorganized & confusing. Pure excel work most times w/ unclear instructions.Lecture was Blah! He tests us on like 6 chs. @ a time & final is cummulative. o_0

WORST professor I have taken. Full of himself. Stopped giving us written notes just so people would listen to him.. TA writes tricky exams trying to confuse you. The lab is even worse.. final is not what we did in lab, much more complicated. I have never hated a class more in my entire life, and I am an A student with no problem working hard.

AVOID ECOLOGY LAB at USF if you can! The lab designed by Dr. Fox was an absolute waste of time. It was very unstructured and we were basically doing busy work on excel almost every week. The final exam content did not reflect work done throughout the semester. I am a straight A student, and have never been so frustrated with a one credit course!

Comment:
The lectures are extremely boring. He goes into long tangents and interest is quickly lost. His lectures are more complicated then the book and you are responsible for both. He doesn't give notes but expects you to pay attention and take them. The test written by the TA are really tricky. The lab section he directs is the worst.

Comment:
Dr. Fox is pompous, smarmy, and condescending. He changes the rules as he goes for seemingly no reason. Furthermore, he can't simply answer a question, he has to first degrade the entire class, then answer indirectly using a system of convuluted references to text or syllabus. I got an A, so I'm not saying this bitterly. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

In my humble opinion, Dr. Fox is a great professor. He was clear on what he wants from the class. I see that many people have rated him negatively for tests. For Conservation Biology, all the tests were essay questions. They were not confusing (or especially difficult), but it did ensure that you knew the material.

He was a pretty boring prof, and his test questions were tricky. Make sure you write as much as you can on the half sheet of paper you get as a cheat sheet, you will need it! The final was easy, just a compilation of the 3 tests.

changed his syllabus and testing procedures. not helpful at all, test questions were very competative. he does not care nor does he help students with anything, his TA is a loser also. do yourself a favor and find another professor for ecology, its worth the wait to take it with someone else and any other class fox teaches. everyone hates him.

Dr.Fox was wonderful. Very knowledgeable, ready to answer questions, class is quite interractive. You can get easy A if you show up and pay attention. This class required no memorization, just use your brain and you will do great !
