Likes to flaunt his knowledge of the Beatles, but doesn't seem to teach much else. Involves students with his political qualms in the department. Strong-armed the music department to put focus on ethnomusicology.

Really love Gordon, but I've never been able to get over the fact that he looks like Kim possible's naked mole rat.

Enthusiastic teacher who knows a lot about what he teaches. Quizzes become easier once you figure out what he wants, but the questions seem unnecessary and random at times. Class is interesting and in lecture format. Not an easy A--harder than you'd think. Nice guy who obviously loves the subject matter. Unique class.

Comment:
Gordon didnt do much teaching - class was essentially students doing 95% of the reading outside of class and then regurgitating it back to him in class. He also grades way harder than necessary and takes significant amounts of points off for things that arent remotely related to the subject he teaches. Somewhat flexible with deadlines

Gordon Thompson clearly knows his stuff when it comes to the material, but he's spent more time posturing to us how much he knew than actually teaching us. Plus, he graded our essays way more brutally than necessary. Don't count on getting any A's in this course, no matter how much you work.

A great human being, an exceptionally talented musician, a knowledgeable professor. Lower-level classes are lectures, but he allows room for feedback. If you reach out to him, he will help you immensely. Tough grader of papers, but quizzes are a joke if you memorize obscure facts about songs. (Release dates? Really?) You will learn a lot, though.

Enthusiastic and knowledgeable but the actual design for his course was among the worst I've ever taken at Skidmore. We didn't actually learn anything of significance and instead focused on memorizing arbitrary facts about songs (e.g. the month a song was released). Over an entire semester, it turned into a huge waste of time.

Terrible professor. He knows a lot, but he does not know how to teach. His class was essentially easy, but he assigned a whole bunch of busy-work to make us feel like we were actually learning something. He definitely has his favorites. I have NO respect for this professor (I have loved nearly every professor I've had here at Skidmore).

I thought this class would be awesome, but instead turned out rather boring. All lecture, no discussion and it takes forever to finally get into the music we all want to listen to. Could be a much better class than it actually is. At least there's not a lot of work

He helped me become a better writer. He is genuinely invested in Skidmore and its students. Irks some students because he comes off as full of himself at first. Get to know him on a personal level and you will be much more pleased. Don't be afraid to take him down a notch.

Nice guy, just misunderstood. Knows his material, conveys it in a not horrible manner, but occasionally treats his students like they're crap. Don't always seem to know what he wants, until it's too late.
