Comment:

Horwitz is a super interesting teacher, she has a lot of fascinating things to say and she genuinely cares about what she's talking about. I had to adapt to how she wants you to write essays, it's a little strange. She basically teaches you history without glossing over all the human rights violations in our VERY recent past. You will learn a lot.

Excellent professor and person. Essay feedback is specific, so if you hit the marks, you will score high. Interesting, and engaging class, and she is overall a hilarious and laid-back professor. She understands your pain as a college student and is kind about grades. Cannot find anything negative about her. Would definitely take her class again.

I took Horwitz fall of last semester and she is undoubtedly my favorite professor at SMC. Not only will you easily absorb the lessons the teaches, but you will seriously find personal growth among her amazing lectures, thought provoking discussions and controversial films. Best class at SMC! You will be missing out if you choose not to take it!

Comment:

LOVED Horwitz, by far one of my favorite classes/teachers at SMC. I really looked forward to every single class meeting. Truly inspirational women who taught me it only takes a small group of people to make a change in this world and to look at the way the media can portray events and people. I look at the news in a whole different way now!

Horwitz's class is performance art. I swear to god she is inspirational and informative. She's lived through this history, reported on it and now she teaches it in the best possible way. I took notes on everything she said but when test time came (essays only; don't let this scare you), I had absorbed everything so much. I could teach the class.

She is by far the best professor I have had at SMC! She makes lectures very interesting by putting the content into her own words in a way that is much easier for her students to understand and retain the information. Your grade is based on a few essays and in terms of grading she considers improvement. Overall, AMAZING teacher!

Prof Horwitz made it crystal clear at the start of the semester that those who had one B and all As on assignments - plus commented in every class - would be excused from the final. I have taken other Scholars classes that have the same policy. Some people don't listen. She is the best! Take her class if you can get in, s493he is very popular.

I don't understand where the bad comment about Professor Horwitz is coming from. I took her Media 10 class, and had one of the best experiences in a class at SMC ever. She is an extremely passionate teacher, and her care for the subject and her students shines through all of her highly interesting (and entertaining) lectures.

Professor Horwitz is by far the most inspiring teacher I have ever had at SMC. She responds to emails very fast and is always happy to help. Her lectures are always interesting. It is not a difficult class at all if you just attend class and take notes.

Professor Horwitz is absolutely amazing! Definitely puts into perspective current events with those of the past-- creates basis for content. I also learned to be more critical of what the media puts before me. She is a tough grader, but offers great feedback; she wants you to improve. Did I mention that she is hilarious? Would 1010 recommend!

Professor Horwitz is AMAZING!!! I absolutely recommend her! Her class is inspirational and I learned to analyze the media so differently because of her. She's super helpful and always stayed with a couple of us after class for help and even to just share her amazing life experience. I got B's on my essays but I improved & got an A- on the midterm.

Very interesting class! She's a really fair grader and works with you to try and help you improve. You don't have a lot of tests, but you're ready for them when they come. She's very open-minded. I've never heard her call a student's opinion wrong. Fun teacher and fun class. Definitely take it!!!

The best professor I've ever taken at SMC! She cares about her students so much! Lectures are fun, clear, and interesting. Discussions are thought-provoking. Her exams are all essays that she makes sure you're super prepared for. She's super understanding and thoughtful. This class is fun, applicable, and all around great. 1110 would recommend!

This was one of the most interesting and eye-opening classes I have ever taken. Professor Horwitz is super nice and she tells you exactly what she wants on the essay exams. There are 4-5 exams and then a final that make up your grade. You don't really need to read the textbook to do well on the exams either. Pretty easy class.

Just go to class and you can get an A on her essays, she tells you specifically what she is looking for. I never did any of the HW assignments. Great teacher! I wish she taught more courses. She's very involved and will help you in anything you need. Overall great class especially if you participate. Test are essays but they're on info she talks about so its easier to get good grade if you go to class. On your essays GIVE EXAMPLES AND EXPLAIN. An A is most definitely achievable.
