He is absolutely awful at teaching. He is a nice guy, but just a really bad lecture professor. Material is not hard, but if you do not know chem at all, he will confuse you. He does curve and give extra credit though.

Great prof and very helpful. He can be a bit confusing, but he loves his subject and is willing to answer questions. VERY tough grader, never gave anyone 100% on assignments. Tests are pretty easy, just make sure to do practice problems and you'll be fine.

Comment:
Had him twice. *hint use Google for sample exam practice. Really shines as lab prof since he teaches quant and biochem and leaks advanced techniques to students who want higher accuracy and precision. Always took max time for exams because he loves those big problems. Final is drastically easier than midterms since it's essentially midterm 1+2.

Comment:
He is unclear and his grading is somewhat different from most other profs. Show all work and do 'practice' problems in etext because they appear in pre-lect quizzes. Usually curves, but you cannot get lower than a C on any exam and expect an A. If he knows you as an enthusiastic student, he prob curves you an extra 2% total. Gives hints for exams.

Dr. Santillan is a professor that usually assumes that you understand the material. He knows his stuff, but he isn't the clearest professor. If you don't understand him, ASK HIM QUESTIONS after class or in lab. Keep on asking questions until he has to give clear answers. Nevertheless, I would recommend him. He's got a quaint sense of humor.

I have him for lab and his explanations of things are SO confusing. He is a nice guy but he manages to make things way more complicated than they need be. Also, he assigns a lot of pointless busy work.

Lectures are incredibly dry. So hard to stay awake during his class. Powerpoints are not very easy to follow. Use the study guides, as the tests are exactly the same questions as the study guides, just with different numbers.

Really nice guy and is helpful when you ask him questions but he's such a harsh grader! i had him for quant lab and he gave really low scores even if you turned it in a second time with corrections! i would recommend students to pick another teacher if possible but if you have him, just be very careful at following the procedures in your lab manual

He sucks at teaching chem. yes he's a nice guy, but that doesn't mean he's the greatest professor. kinda killed my interest in this major, but this is just one road block. AVOID HIM IF POSSIBLE, for ur GPA's sake.
