I graduated in Dec 1989. I had Dr Churnet for several Classes and I found him to be an incredibly Vibrant instructor. I was inspired to actually understand concepts and look beyound the textbook pages. We enjoyed the most educational field trips and actually were able to envsion geolgical processes of how our region was formed. By far, best Prof

Comment:

While he does have an accent, he is engaging with the class and it is very clear that he wants you to understand and cares about his students. If you just write down the topics he mentions in class, and read the textbook for more indepth material, you will excel. Overall, most people don't like him because the don't want to try.

Comment:

He is very passionate about this subject and that is very evident. Students complain because he doesn't hand out A's but if you actually put work in then you will do decent. He does have a very strong accent so it takes a bit to get used to (most people didn't even try to understand him). Put in effort and you'll be fine. He's very nice!!

Comment:

Avoid making eye contact with him because he will call you out in front of the whole class and there is a good chance you have no idea what he is talking about. The class is called "Oceanography" yet he never talks about the ocean. You can not understand his lectures and if you attempt to read them at home he has many typos.

he doesn't speak english and isnt helpfull at all. I hated his class and he would literally go on rants and say "do you get that" we would all say no and he would just continue on... it was terrible and the lab that goes with it is way worse.

even though attendance isn't mandatory, if you want to get a good grade in the class you have to be there. At first his class didn't make sense but if you stick with it, it gets so much easier. Good professor has a passion for what he does and does a good job at explaining things when asked! Do the work get the grade :)

His intentions are good, but his teaching is bad. Needs a TA desperately. His first language is not English and his tests are in broken English so you'll probs fail, no matter how hard you try. Get the book, you'll need it to teach yourself the material. He lets you bring in notes for the tests. DO THE DISCUSSION BOARDS FOR EXTRA CREDIT.

He's a little difficult to understand at first, but through the semester it gets much easier. His lectures are a little too detailed, but he knows a lot about A LOT. LISTEN and you'll get an A.

Don't take! The lectures are useless but are required for attendance. Bring other work to do. Buy the book because you will be teaching yourself the class. The exams are multiple choice and are extremely tricky and misspelled. I'm a straight A student. There is no way to prepare for the final either. It's worth 40%; the other 3 are worth 60.

The whole semester I have had difficulty understanding what he is saying. I never know what he is talking about and nothing seems to make sense. He will assign homework but won't say when it is due. Would not recommend this teacher to anyone.

He is the WORST professor I've ever had! He rambles on and then realizes what he's talking about does not relate to the lecture in any way. His tests do not make any sense; there are grammatical errors in almost every question and it's very frustrating. He doesn't let you ask questions on the tests, and he can be very rude. AVOID!

I honestly cannot stand him. I have never worked so hard for a class in my life! I studied so hard for his tests and they dont make any sense! Whatever you do do not take him!! His grading scale is the craziest thing in the world! You will never understand why you get the grades you do on the profolio because its so much work and out of 5 points!

If you do not have a strong background in geology and physics, DO NOT TAKE THS COURSE. It is very difficult and he can be very confusing. Make sure you go above and beyond because he has very high expectations. He can be helpful if you go to his office after class. Don't miss a class. Know the book backwards and forwards.

Great Teacher! you don't have to go to class, but it helps out a lot if you do and he's an interesting person. his tests are fairly easy, his study guides that he gives are the exact questions he asks on test. and theres only a couple of HW assignments. Definitely take him!

I have never worked so hard for B's in my life! Summer session is a definite NO! Final is only 30% of total grade, but misspellings on the exams, board writing, and power-points leave one reeling with too much useless explanation and not enough focus. I have never said avoid a professor, but AVOID HIM if you have a good GPA and want to retain it.

Accent, but not too thick. All test questions come from Learning Objectives via Power Point. Medium, to fast paced, you might have to ask him to go back a slide to get notes. He doesn't post anything to B.B., don't ask cause he will say no. Willing to work with students. Overall, interesting class, I busted my tail in here and came out with a B.

This man is flat out bonkers. He's confusing as crap...his class (Oceanography) was ridiculous. I was expected and interesting and easy A. WRONG. Avoid him like the plague if you have to. He gave me an A when I had an 86 for a final grade, so his class is doable. It just flat out sucks.

Even though attendance is not mandatory, GO!Also, PAY ATTENTION or he will put you on the spot.His grading method is crazy, but he gives students multiple chances to improve.The final WAS 50% of the final grade,but he gives huge grade curves because his wording can be confusing.I learned a lot but it was mostly due to studying on my own.

this teacher is horrible do not take him. when he teaches it's like he talks to himself the entire time not caring if the student understands. even though he is sweet and nice. he still will fail you. he only gave us 6 assigments throughout the entire semester if you fail half of them you are just assed out and also the final was 50% of your grade

He is not a great teacher at all. You get easily confused with his teachings. He jokes too much and doesn't really help if you need questions answer. I do not recommend you taking his class unless you want to teach yourself. Tests are not that easy and he will even give you wrong answers!
