Comment:
Material is difficult and superfluous. Lectures are equally discursive & helpful. Favors proactive students. Exams are difficult and he looks for answers that reflect his interpretations. A prestigious member of the community & clearly knows it. However, he is a really good guy who, once he takes an interest in a student, will do a lot for them.

Prof. Silverman is great man, intellectual, and professor. His courses focus primarily on contemporary european philosophy (continental philosophy). He is fluent in 4 languages. Extremely adept in postmodernisms, deconstruction, and phenomenology. The work is difficult, but talk to him and ask questions. You will love him if willing to work/learn.

Worst class I have ever taken in my entire life. Professor is just as incomprehensible as the class itself and it totally turned me off to philosophy as a whole. His grading is miserable, his teaching methods are even worse. We do not care who slept at your house and where you lived last year!!!

this class was the biggest waste of time I have ever paid money for in my life. I was interested in the topic before I met this guy.. while he is an intelligent person, he has no business teaching and I would never recommend him to anyone I cared about.

This guy is the king of tangents. He talks more about his trips abroad than he does about the course material, he is 10 minutes late to class every time without fail and tries to keep you extra minutes because of all the time he wastes in class. Do not expect the lectures to be helpful at all.

Comment:
He's real cool and funny. I like his class, and he does his best to help clarify any issue, if if its related to another class. He does tend to babble a bit though, but that's really not too big an issue. The one negative is that his midterm and final are harsh. If you take his class, READ EVERYTHING, and ASK QUESTIONS. don't fall behind!

Comment:
He certainly does like himself a lot, but at the same time he is well accomplished and i can understand why. He has a very interesting teaching style and his class is not made for people with little interest. There is a lot of reading. I had a great TA and that sure helped a lot. Overall, his lectures are good but they tangent and can be unclear.

this guy is a total gerk! **** and ****. a couple people dropped out b/c of that. i've noticed that the only students who like him are men. and it helps if you're sychophantic bootlicker who likes to hear him say how great he is rather than lecture. did he tell u where he was when roland barthes died? i think he told us about 10 times.

Very hard class, but worth it. He gives a lot of reading but you can get a good grade at the end if you do the work.

He treats this course like a 300 level class, the 11 books we had to buy are so difficult and he takes soooo long to grade papers so you have no idea how you are doing in the class and even though he is nice he makes the class so difficult!

Silverman is a great guy and he is very well informed in philosophy. try to find a book he hasn't read. Good grader as long as you read up, although texts can be difficult.

I recommend taking his class. However, you must keep up with the readings because he gives out about 4 surprise quizzes. Pay attention and incorporate what he saids into his papers and you will do fine. He is a very nice and understanding guy.

Great guy, always willing to help or just talk. He gives mindless quizes just to make sure you do the work, and his papers/tests are not hard either.
