Professor Imam mere all was the best professor I have ever had. She is smart, charismatic, interesting, and really knows her stuff. I recommend her!

Comment:

This is a tough course, I wouldn't advise it to anyone who has no background knowledge of Arabic language. If you choose to enroll in this course, I suggest you invest a lot of time in studying and practicing the language as it can get very difficult at times. Prof. Iman is a great instructor, she really rewards students who put in the best effort

Comment:

Extremely difficult to learn. I would suggest teaching yourself to read and write the alphabet before beginning this class. You will need all the help you can get. (I began studying in January the prepare for the fall semester!) Speak arabic with your friends, watch movies, etc.. Iman is a truly amazing person and teacher. I'm so grateful.

Iman Mersal is the worst professor at the UofA. For some reason she would pick on students and is very disrespectful to them. She is very rude, and doesn't care about most students. She doesn't believe in equality, and as a student I think that is very unprofessional. One more thing, participate in class... if you dont, she gets very angry.

She has great expertise , which makes you learn without making extra efforts like most profs. I have taken 3 courses with Prof. Mersal is always prepared to intrigue your curiosity & provides support, insight, interesting topics & feedback to improve.. She is very inspiring , would recommend & definitely take another class with her.

I have taken 3 courses with Prof. Mersal, & she has never failed me because her support, insight, interesting topics & feedback helped me to improve. She is very knowledgeable in her area, which makes you learn a lot without making extreme efforts like other profs. She is very inspiring , would recommend & definitely take another class with her,

Very passionate/comedic professor, interesting class discussions. Attendance is mandatory, must come to class prepared since she expects everyone to participate in class discussions. Rent textbooks our from library. Exams are challenging but you'll get an A if you put in the work.

loved this class! it was really interesting. sends her slides which is really helpful, gives you the questions that are on the midterm and has lots of incredible stories!! would recommend this class to anyone who is willing to do work and attend class

Comment:

Great class! Although even though it was called an interdisciplinary course it was 95% history. Large amounts of readings were balanced out by having no papers or asignments. The list of possible test questions was given ahead of time, making them easy if you prepare. If you do your reading this class is a breeze, but she is harsh if you haven't.

She doesn't make you do much work (all I had to do for this class was write a midterm and a final), and you can pretty much learn everything you need to from the textbook. However, it sucks that she doesn't post her lecture slideshows, and she's sometimes difficult to understand.

If you already know and have an opinion of the middle east this class is not for you. The texts are filled with info to read after the course. She is hard to understand sometimes but is a really interesting person when you read up on her. There is a participation mark so be prepared to speak at least once to make sure you don't get a 0!

she has very poor knowledge about the course, and she is keep talking about Egypt all the time, come on the class is about middle east not only Egypt. u never learn anything from her other than learning about Egypt not even in the right way. she cant even make a different between the countries. i dont know why they have her around. u wont learn :(

listen everyone, to be honest with you, the class is very good, but the prof is useless, i really dont know why they have her around, trust me she doesnt know anything about this course, and she read everything a night before the class. i never did learn anything from her please if u wanna learn dont think to have her. thanks
