Had her for printmaking. Too much monotype and collage, finally go to woodcut and some dry point late in term. My high school did more like line etching and tones with acid. Various editions and pronta plates were cool though. Felt like printmaking for abstract painters. Expect a lot of one of a kind prints.

Jan really takes the time to connect with students. She challenges you (in a good way) to make the best art you can. She is funny and easy to talk to. I took her course last year and I still am able to get her advice on my current work and chat with her whenever I see her!

This Prof wants you to succeed.She asks you to own up to your own practice and learn to define your goals instead of just throwing rote crap at you. Jans courses link to contemporary world art websites specific to student individual interests.

Useless. Absolutely useless. Does NOT know how to effectively teach, knows how to throw information at you, neglect proofreading her handouts, make you cry for no apparent reason, make you feel like crap and give you useless tips. My advice - stay away if you can, otherwise just ignore her.

Work hard and make solid work and she's great. Slack off and she'll make life a living hell. She can have juvenile moments, so you NEED a thick skin, since she might tell you you're not cut out for art...just prove her wrong.

deep experience as a professional artist..and many years of experience teaching this prof is young, vital an so connected to the canadian and international art scene...'and no gimmicks..just her art..which she shares with us. she is showing worldwide..and makes no big deal of it.As a teacher Jan is completely awesome..especially in 3rd year.

Excellent prof if she likes you. Period. Not sure how it is done, just as long as you show up and make yourself seen a lot, make sure you mix your colours, don't make ugly or unartistic art, and appear to take in everything she says (even if you don't do it.. she'll never know). Is usually really helpful once you're on this good side of hers.

Get on her good side ASAP. Talk about psych and personal stuff, then paint about it. Just say yes to all her ideas then do your own thing 'cause she'll forget. Her library is great. Ignore her put-downs. If she dislikes you, you're basically screwed...
