Comment:
Perhaps the nuttiest thing about this Professor is his inability to provide substantial feedback in an orderly amount of time. Sure he know's his stuff but he is unwillingly to communicate and help students comprehend the already difficult CS concepts. Constantly disoriented, disorganized, and overall a sloppy Professor. Avoid if you can.

Pretty disorganized, seemed to have way too much on his plate. Not sure if it was his fault or the department's. We had no TAs. The material was not hard and he was unbelievably lenient with grading. He ended up having to scale grades by 20+ points. Lots of pop quizzes.

Seems like a nice guy but is one of the worst professors I have ever had. Did not give a midterm/majority of assignments until mid April. Final project wasn't given until after finals had started and continuously posted updates to his starter code that did not work until the day before it was due. Had to scale so hard a D was a 45. Avoid if you can

Sometimes would forget to post assignments so they became longer and every programming assignment (there were 4 including the final project) was worth 25% of your grade. This class only met once a week for 3 hours so if you miss one meeting you do miss a lot of material. Did provide good and useful example code for every topic covered though.

He's adorable and very helpful. Between him and Baudet, I'd definitely choose him again. Very unorganized and hardly ever sticks to schedule (first assignment was almost half way through the semester) and the assignments are VERY difficult (well, it IS a 400 level so I can't complain that much). Other than that, absolutely nothing else negative!

Projects are very time consuming. The professor doesn't make grading criteria clear. However, you will learn more from this professor than most. He is brilliant and is willing to give you the tools you need in the challenges he presents you. Hold this professor responsible for promises he makes and you will have a great relationship with him.

I wish he managed his time better. Puts students at the risk of not finishing, notorious for giving incomplete. Always running late, forgets to post assignments and then dumps it on you at the last moment. Terrible time management. Runs off to another country in the middle of the semester.

Difficult to understand at first, but one of the most helpful professors on campus. Expect to spend 15-20 hours on labs, as his method of teaching is trial by fire. This guy is the reason I learned to program. Highly recommend him if you are willing to put in the work.

Okay really nice guy, but can't understand him. Labs are only ridiculous because he doesn't teach you a thing...literally, I taught myself everything. Be prepared to spend 10-20 hours on some labs. Good Luck, because youll prob have no choice in taking him or not.

This is the most ridiculous class I've ever taken. I could never understand a word he said. His projects are about 100 times more complicated then they need to be and he never teaches anything relevant to his assignments. I almost failed two other classes simply because of his projects and needing help from TA's all the time. Good thing he scales.

Awesome professor. Allowed me after the semester was over to borrow his personal books to continue learning on things we didn't get to in class. Very challenging assignments, but if you try, and ask for help, you will get a good grade. I learned more in this class than any other csc i've taken.

very difficult to understand his french accent. assignments are extremly hard (sometimes i spent over 20 hours in a week on them) but he's lenient with the deadlines. tests are pretty hard. doesnt teach you stuff you need to know about the program. he scales the overall grade in the class so its not too hard to get a good grade. lost of work though

For a new programmer, Herve gave extremely challenging programming assignments. He was relaxed about deadlines though and always in his office to help if you wanted. One of the best professors I have ever had.

Assignments are very tough, but when it comes down to it, everyone gets a good grade as long as they show up and make an effort. Really nice guy, kind of overwhelmed with all the projects he's been working on, but I would definitely take the class again!

First assignment: get used to his thick accent and soft voice. Other than that, he's the most helpful CS professor I've taken. He'll sit with you for hours and go through your source code to help you out. Deadlines are soft, tests aren't hard. Nice and helpful guy - he's the Anti-Baudet.

The younger Frenchmen. Probably one of the best faculty in the department. Explains things really well, and is always willing to help. His exams are a b*tch though.
