He's not so bad. The class is hard regardless of who you take it with but he was fair. He loooves quizzes, he gave us one almost every class. Pay attention in lab because everything is important. I actually really liked this class, glad I took it with Burne.

He had two Microbiology classes this semester, both started with 35-ish, the first class had 1 person before the final, my class had about 11 show up the final. He's not there to be your friend. He says certain topics won't be on an exam, and then they'll show up. He'll put random questions on the tests that aren't in the book or lecture.

Study, study make notecards and study again and you can pass. It was tough in the beginning but for me it got easier towards the end. He is a good professor. DO NOT MISS Lecture or LAB AT ALL. I know things come up but this is key to passing. Also take good notes because he does not post powerpoints on D2L and be very detailed in the UNKNOWN paper!

Tests are recollection. He does not try to trick you. However, he does make you think about the information. Read the book and the lab manual until your eyes bleed. Details matter. He's a great professor, and if you're a good student, you'll appreciate the challenge. He doesn't make good students fail his class. He curves, but don't expect much.

DO NOT TAKE! The class seems manageable in the beginning and he makes you feel comfortable about the material. This is not the case. He will tell you one thing and grade you based on something else. He intentionally puts material that we have not covered on the test. Tests are 100 fill in the blank questions. Do not take him for any reason!!!!!!!

Syllabus said we had to do additional research outside of class of 1-2 paragraphs about the topic we covered in lab. He ACTUALLY wanted two to three pages with citations. Syllabus said the final weighed as two lab reports (ended up as 4). He was hardly in the room with us. His final study guide is little help. It's not just hard work, it's stress.

Dr. Burne is an awesome teacher. He will teach you the material and he will maintain the integrity of the class but he is not your friend. He is very helpful. He gives you study guide questions in the syllabus and the more in-depth you answer those questions on your own, the better off you will be. Be ready to work and you will do fine.

DO NOT take!!! Find another professor. I studied more for his class than Organic Chemistry and Physics (COMBINED). His tests are very complex (especially the fill in the blank). Assigns 21 diagrams for test but you are only tested on 5 of them. Tests covered 5-7 chapters at a time. He does curve tests.

You must study constantly. The quizzes are facts from the lecture, but the tests are half facts and half interpretation. Do not take this class if you do not want to be stressed out. He is a bit of a grump in lecture for this class, and his regular lab quizzes are rough. I do not recommend this instructor for regular students.

Dr. Burne starts out very rough & tough - and he is. But, he is also the fairest teacher I have ever had. You have to try, try, and try some more. He will help you but you have to also help yourself.

Difficult summer class. His teaching is great, but his tests don't match up. I hated the class while taking it because of the stressful tests. He also seems rude at first, but it's just his dry sense of humor and no-nonsense attitude. Not an easy teacher at all, but an A is possible if you work REALLY hard.

I took it over the summer it was really hard, he curves and at times its helpful i struggled but eventually i passed on my first time with a C he is willing to help but at times he doesn't make it clear when it comes to the exams what he said won't be on there probably will so USE YOUR BOOK A LOT and don't go by just his notes

I failed this class due to lack of studying and personal issues going on in my life at the time. Which had nothing to do with the way he teaches. He is a great teacher overall. He will help you if you're willing to help yourself. I would recommend taking him for the class. Just don't expect anything more out of the class than you put into it.

Good teacher. He can clearly explain every course concept. BIO 1134 requires alot of work, but he was fair in his grading and general course policies. I made a B, but I had to work for it.
