Comment:
Very unstructured: readings didnt correlate with lectures, which followed the syllabus only about half the time. An A is 98-100%, and missing one question out of 30 is an automatic B. Dr. Root, although sweet and caring, came across as rather self-centered as he talked a lot about himself and his accomplishments. The workload is also quite heavy.

Dr. Root is the best prof at Wheaton, in my opinion. Tougher grader but his feedback is specific and personal. His class changed my life. I am still reflecting upon everything I have learned from him. His lectures and stories are engaging. He took time to know, talk to, and pray for students. I am not the same after CE 111. Please take his class.

One of the best profs at Wheaton. There were weekly one page-papers due, but they are meaningful, not busywork. Amazing lectures, valuable readings. Very inspirational. He speaks truth and wisdom in a way that you cannot help but respect and admire him. It's worth it just to hear about his life. Takes time to get to know students personally.

transmitting confusing messages about readers and solutions to fascinating rides of lectures. sociologist would call this sleek and sophisticated but the topics are from time to time an amateur work of a cryptographer. he needs to be exposed of his disappointing machinery.

Dr. Root lives up to his reputation. He is very wise, and his class didn't feel much like a class at all. He really knows his material and is genuine in how much he cares about it. Dr. Root is a prof everyone should take before they graduate. Highly recommended.

He's an awesome teacher and even though he goes on a lot of rabbit trails and the work load is a little on the heavy side, the life lessons I've learned in that class TOTALLY outweigh all the hard work I had to do in that class. He really makes you think about your faith and solidify your beliefs.

Dr. Root is great, but NOT a top 5 prof at Wheaton. People act like you HAVE to take him, but if you attend one of his lectures you've literally heard it all. Every class was the same. Humble guy but unnecessarily bragged on himself each lecture..? Great stories, but unsure how effective his form of personal evangelism will be moving forward.

This was my favorite class at Wheaton, only to be tied with Brother Root's other class of C.S. Lewis & Christian formation. What you learn in this class is edifying for all disciples. If you are looking to grow as a disciple and be mentored with wisdom and love, if you will put in the effort to listen and read for understanding, take this class.

Fantastic prof, Jerry really captured my interest, and thats tough these days. I was never late or missed a class simply because I didn't want to miss anything he had to say. The guy loves what he does, teaches his material wel, and looks beyond the student, to make a friend. The class is tough, but its very doable, and well worth it!

Amazing lecturer. He wants to get to know his students, so go in for office hours. The grading system is a little difficult for this class, but as long as you read and review for the quizzes, you should be fine. Overall I loved CE111, and I am so glad I took it freshman year first semester. Best choice I could've made.

Dr. Root is a fantastic person with a genuine love for others, but he is a not a good teacher. He goes on rabbit trails, and his lectures are hard to follow. Also, he expects you to remember everything he's said and everything you have read, so the weekly quizzes can be difficult and the final is very hard. Don't expect an easy A.

Dr. Root is the type of person that you just want to tell your life to. He really attempts at pouring his life for his students, and does so. He's one of the "MVP's" at Wheaton College, so if you haven't taken any of his classes yet, you should! Although he does sign a good bit of reading, it's all worth it. He'll make you work for your grade

Dr. Root is the most influential teacher I have had at Wheaton. This class has benefitted my faith, relationship, education, and future. He sets high standards, but tells you how you can meet them. Class consists of daily readings and weekly quizzes. His exams are not surprises, he prepares you for all the material. This class is life-changing.

He is definitely a really fantastic guy. Lots of reading and (in this class) one one-page thoughtful essay a week. I still make efforts to get lunch or coffee with him. Very wise, personal, thought-provoking prof.

Most personal and caring professor at Wheaton. The things you learn in his class will go so much further than just inside the classroom. Regardless of what your major is, everyone should take Intro to Christian Ed with Jerry Root.... It's that impactful

His classes are very hard because he's a really tough grader, but he really cares about his students. He tends to tell the same stories and information multiple times, often using the same exact words and phrases each time, but they're good stories and help you conceive God and faith in new ways.
