This man taught 1/3 of my classes. First off, anyone who thinks he's cocky or full himself needs to get a life...check out the mans background and diplomas...he was teaching at an Ivy league in less time than it took most of you to get to purchase. He's brilliant, likes to mess with his students, rocks the humor, and leaves the learning up to you.

This goes out to everyone who took a non major course with Jim. You know nothing, your simply judging based on the fact that to your black and white vision, he's 'lying' to you. He isn't. You believing him proves your ignorance of common knowledge, he's testing you, as a teacher should. Whoever first said 'he lies to us' first made his day

arrogant and demeaning under the guise of being inspiring, hip, and friendly. Often whined about the school administration his salary, yet bragged about his personal wealth. Generally knows his stuff, but is inconsistent and loose with stats and figures. So lax in his grading that my A, which I worked for, was meaningless. Not the worst, but close.

He basically knows his stuff, but he's a liar and very cocky. Needs you to think he's intelligent and will act knowledgeable about topics he assumes you don't know about- set your radar when he brings up poetry, foreign language, or quantum physics. Easy classes that are too easy to learn nothing in.

Comment:
Engaging teacher, has a lot to say. He has a habit of recycling old information, but he usually approaches it from a different angle, which could demonstrate to a student how importnat he feels some of his lessons are, or get really old. If you get offended, don't go to class, you'll pass anyway. Be wary, he has been known to make up facts

This class really opened my eyes! I look at music in a totally different way because of him. In his words- "You have to work hard to get an F in this class." I took this class in the summer and I could have been laying on the beach but I went to every class!

This guy was out of his mind. My first impression of him was when he threw the attendance list against the wall and went YESSS!!! Then he looked at the short piece of chalk in his hand and said "ok, this is how long class is today." I loved how our midterm was take home and our final was ONE counterpoint example from a worksheet haha.

Jim likes to crack jokes and digress- many of his jokes are funny, others u have to bear and grin. His class is fun, but u must attend in order to pass. If u take some notes on key points & definitions of terms, u'll do decently on take home exams (mid term/final). Bear in mind that in order to enjoy class and use what u learn, be serious about it

Jim is a great teacher... very entertaining, but you have to motivate yourself to learn and get ahead in his classes to succeed outside of school... Make sure you know what you want to do in real life before leaving this program, and work hard at it while you're still in school.

Jim once gave us a mid term and told us "This is the mid-term, it's 50 True/False questions, and they're all true." He wasn't joking. Greatest man ever.
