Medley is an old school Waterloo prof. You're Engineering degree is not complete without taking a course from him. If you need extra help he is always willing and able - even if you ask him for assistance outside of course content.

The worst professor uwaterloo has to provide for students. Extremely unclear rated the worst professor by course evaluation in 2013. Goes off topic regularly, and does not completely teach the concepts to students because he doesn't know. Unapologetically crude, and very unprofessional.

The comments on this site are skewed by the fact that Medley teaches one of the more conceptually difficult courses in 3rd year engineering and as such some get poor grades and come here to vent. Medley is extremely insightful and will never not take the time to help. The class is delivered well. If you dont get it you probably didn't go to class!

Prof Medley is soooo cool, and hot. Being in his class was a pleasure brought a ray of sunshine to my otherwise dreary, studentdebt filled days. His jokes are prime, especially considering he is such an old man. He also has a great sense of style... those polo shirts! Worst Prof I've ever had in my life. Absolutely useless in many ways. Talking to the board all the time. and holy, he takes long time to draw a simple diagram and still no one understands it. arrows flying everywhere on the board. personally i really hate when he says "maybe" all the time. i think you are way better off just read the text trust me.

Most useless prof ever. Teaches from his own course notes which you buy, and then fill in the blanks in class. Spent weeks teaching us how to draw a gear tooth by hand. Many errors on his exams. Example: On the final, one question was unsolvable., told us to just put an answer in it. Also, showed up to finals late w/ exams still warm.

His lecture notes (the only resource in the course) are TERRIBLE, and he doesn't follow the textbook the MTE's use at all, so don't bother trying that. This course COULD be the most interesting and best course in the whole program, but he ruins everything. Despite being useless, exams are easy enough, and gives everyone 80's on the final project.

He is a very nice guy. However his lecture notes aren't very helpful as are his lectures. Use the TAs as much as possible. But he is an easy prof. He belled the midterm and gave high marks on the projects. He probably did bell the final a bit too.

He is the worst professor I have ever encountered. His notes are disorganized and practically useless. Machinery's one of the fundamentals of Mechanical Engineering, and he's managed to make us hate one of the most useful courses of our discipline.

His presentation is terrible. His technical explanations are unclear. It appears that he is not very knowledgable in his research field. He thus has few redeeming qualities. He makes inappropriate comments and is very awkward in the classroom.

I am going to say it again before I left UW. He is the WORST mech prof, especially if you are male. Late for lecture. Cancel class in the last minute. Inappropriate jokes. Favor female and gives male hard time. It is sad that he is the Mech graduate vice-chair now. The dept should know better especially after those poor class evaluations.

Horrible prof! If something isn't done the way he wants, it's wrong. Consistently late for morning classes. Says inappropriate remarks he thinks are funny but are really offensive. Doesn't know much about what he's teaching. Condescending response to questions.
