don't take this for econ201. its a waste of time, everyone skips bc he doesn't teach. three exams and a final which everyone does so poorly on that he scales them a ton. during class all he does is do math problems, doesn't even teach.

He is intelligent and knows what he's talking about. However, he doesn't really know how to explain the concepts in a way his students would understand. Test grades are low and have to be scaled tremendously. Out of nearly 20 kids enrolled, more than half dropped in the first week. Out of 8 remaining kids, 4 regularly showed. Not recommended.

Honestly, I dropped this class after the first day. He requires students to purchase a book that HE wrote, and dear lord it is awful. I can tell the man is clearly intelligent, far more than I am, but he does not attempt to teach appropriately to his audience. He also mumbles incoherently, and will not allow you to re-enter the room for ANY reason.

Nice guy when you go and talk to him but he is just awful at his job. Could not be anymore unclear, that is if you can actually hear him because he whispers every day. Studied for the final for over 15 hours and i knew about 10 questions. I thought the reviews couldn't be that true when I read them so I took his class anyway. THEY ARE TRUE

He is probably the worst teacher at URI. He would be terrible for any class. We had 3 tests and they were IMPOSSIBLE. 18 questions each and the average of a 33 was scaled to a C. He is so boring and you can barely hear what he says. I can't stress it enough that you should not take a class with this guy. You WILL regret it.

As a result of this teachers lack of adaptation to the times, he has rendered his class useless as well as much more difficult then it needs to be. All class I sit there confused as to what he is even saying, while he makes no attempt to answer questions or clarify what he is trying to say. Overall, avoid this professor as much as possible.

You cant even understand what he is saying in the lecture because he mumbles quietly, but not like it would matter since he practically spits out the textbook word for word. the class is entirely long multistep math problems. do not take this class if you are not prepared to teach yourself the material

My adviser laughed when I told her who I was taking the class with. She actually laughed. His style of lecturing is very dry and if you don't understand his manner of explaining something then you're highly unlikely to get it from the book since he uses a (poorly written) text book that he is the author of.

Lectures are almost word-for-word from the textbook (which he wrote). Test are so hard that a 50% gets scaled to a B. I've heard microeconomics is not hard, but with this guy, it's harder than physics.

AWFUL. Please DO NOT take this class. I read the reviews and ignored them.. DON'T BE LIKE ME. He is so boring and all he does is read the textbook he wrote that doesn't make sense! He has to insanely curve the tests (getting 8 of 14 right is a B) because everyone would fail if he didn't. You can't learn from him - except maybe how to guess on tests

If this is for a gen ed DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! With so many easier econ classes on campus avoid Burkett like the plague. His tests aren't worth the stress and his lectures are slow and boring. He wrote his own book and has his own syllabus so if you don't actually go to class your'e screwed so it's a lose lose situation. Really avoid this class!

For the love of god and your GPA do not take this class under any circumstances. Granted you probably will pass (thanks to his enormous scale), but it is painstakingly boring and hard. But hey if you think your up to it, then more power to ya..

Comment:
This class is awful. After learning economics from other Prof. and using other texts, I dare ask other students: you think you know economics? What's producer surplus? I bet they don't know, because the class doesn't teach that. All the students learn in his class is equations, substitutions. NO INTUITION and CONCEPTS. The text isn't for beginners

One time, I showed up to class 4 minutes late, and no one was there. Out of 38 enrolled, no one showed up. THIS IS HOW BAD THIS PROFESSOR IS. If you cannot get another professor, do not take this course. He is boring, dry, awful at teaching. I got a B- in the class because he scales exams 50 points. Do I know 80% of the material? No

Very intelligent man. He's very approachable if you have any questions and extremely helpful during office hours. This class definitely takes a bit of work, but you will learn a lot if you try. Advice: Definitely read the book even though his lectures follow it closely, do the chapter problems, attend class, and always ask questions if you need to.
