Comment:
Professor Plath is the professor that waits for the class to participate in awkward silence. For a gateway class, he was a tough grader, especially since a lot of the students were going into majors of science or business where you don't have to write a lot. His appointments for papers help, but they're kind of awkward lol.

Comment:
If you're a serious English student, Plath is a good choice. He has great stories and interesting insights. While he is often unclear with his grading criteria and what he is looking for, he is probably the coolest professor in the English department.

One of the worst professors I've had at IWU. He is just clueless. If you want an easy class, go with Plath, but don't expect to learn anything.

I would definitely take him for another writing class, but not for literature. While he is extremely helpful with creative and news writing, his essay guidelines are very strict and a little unclear.

Plath is a good guy, but this class kind of proved to me that I don't want to write fiction. He's much better at lecture about short stories and novels rather than critique. Genre writers/fans beware: he loves the literature of old dead white men. Science fiction? No way in hell.

Despite being an easy grader and having good intentions, he thinks he is a laughriot and is terribly unfunny. He might be a good guy, but he is just really damn annoying. Maybe it was just the fact that it was a Gateway, but I kind of hated the class and him.

Super hard and critical. Willing to help, but sometimes his "help" makes you more confused. I feel like I really didn't learn that much besides the fact that I really don't like journalism.

Great guy. Get to know him because he's got all types of stories and helpful information. A bit unclear in his expectations, because he starts the semester with this grand idea, yet progress is slow throughout the semester.

Apathetic personality, but a good guy. He knows his stuff and expects a lot. You'll have to be very familiar with AP/news styles to do well in this class.

Assignments not too difficult to complete but are graded pretty tough. Some of the feedback I felt was a little unclear. Actual classtime goes by quickly, usually get out early.
