Father Foster was one of the most difficult professors in my undergraduate experience. If you show an interest in the subject material and are engaged in the classroom he will do everything he can to help you learn and get everything you can out of the course. Foster picks favorites from the beginning and if u are on his bad side u may as well drop the class because a guaranteed bad grade will come. Boring and belittling teacher

I really didn't appreciate this class when I took it ten years ago. Now I wish I could take it again. The grammar taught in his class is invaluable in my career as an attorney. Thank you Father Foster!

He's incredibly rude and not helpful at all. Does not give help to students during office hours. Incredibly boring class, he basically babbles about nothing for an hour and a half. Discussion is uninteresting and he picks his favorites within the first two seconds of class. Be on his good side. It sucks when you're not.

Comment:

Very easy to get good grades as long as you apply the grammar tips he gives you. His expectations are often unclear and discussions are very forced, but overall you will become a much better writer if you put in a little effort. Recommended.

This class is easy but ridiculously boring. He grades your work on grammar, not content. As long as you participate in class from the beginning and get on his good side you will get good grades on assignments though.

Terrible professor. He doesn't grade papers on how well you write, simply on how good your grammar is. If you want to do well in his class, write as simplistically as possible. He also sends out random deadlines via email that he forgets to say in class about long projects being due very soon. He expects you to be on time, and never is himself.

He is rather boring most of the time. He grades harshly with a lot of emphasis on grammar. He seems rather set in his ways for a man who has traveled the world. Not a horrible or unbearable professor but I wouldn't highly recommend him either.

I was very disappointed with this class. Everything that everyone else here who posted is valid in their commentary. He grades randomly and doesn't actually read your work, no matter how hard you worked on it, and he may not even grade grammar. He's picky about everything and doesn't give out As. Don't get him. PLEASE!!

He doesn't know what he's teaching. He'll say one thing, then grade you poorly when you do it. The papers that I did 5 minutes before class got better grades then the ones I actually took time on. Also, his final paper is pretty much license to BS things.

He is an okay teacher, he is very vague about assignments and if you have questions he will just reword the question and make you even more confused. He thinks that this is the only class you have so prepare to work. His essay topics are vague and you don't really know what is happening. He also isn't very helpful, its impossible to get help.

He was not unclear and he presented valuable material. Understanding the past and the progression of thought is essential in understanding the world today. In my opinion, you get a double dosage of education here. He also helps you to improve your writing immensely.

Expect all your papers to rest solely on grammer not at all content. Work in class may be considered easy but its repeatitive and lame. It will takes its toll especially when u have others things to do and classes to study for. One positive thing i will say however is he does get u involved with the arts which is pretty cool. This class sucks!

The worst part about his class is how he grades. Essays are based upon on operas and plays you go to. But he analyzes every part of it, down to the sentence structure. He does not allow rewrites for a better grade. Avoid this class if you can. Nice guy, HARD grader. I regret taking this class.
