Forget trying to ask him questions outside of class (which youll need to do bc his in class lectures are so simplistic compared to the book problems & what you'll see on the test). He brushes you off and makes you feel like you should already get the material rather than helping you understand. I was excited to learn physics &then I got stuck w him

Rather than actually teaching us the material, he preaches to us from day 1 that we need to gain access to his old exams. Just stop there for a second and think about that. What honest teacher tells you to memorize old exams which will have the exact same questions? That's right, none. Hanneken encourages you to cheat rather than actually learn.

Fun to listen to in class, but the problems on tests are far more difficult. You aren't allowed equation sheets on the majority of your tests and those are the only things that count towards your final grade. He will brush you off if you ask questions outside, during office hours. Fun to listen to, horrible grading system.

Highly Recommended. For those who are seriously about learning Physics - the real science, you will love this course. It's fun to listen to Professor Hannaken's lecture as he has so many interesting stories to share. Also, he knows the best way to solve any physics problems. Exam is not easy, but you get the grade based on the effort you put in.

This professor was the worst one I've had yet. Horrible at explaining the material and switches up everything on the exams to make students fail. You never have enough time to finish the exam either.

He gives a 2 hour test in 45-50 minutes. You will NOT be able to finish all questions in time unless you are exceptional. He glazes over important concepts. This was Calculus based, yet we seemed to avoid it, effectively forcing us to use some really creative Algebra acrobatics. Physics is interesting, but he made it miserable.

Dr. Hanneken is awesome. I'm glad I took his class. His exams are always a bit harder than the problems in class but if you study and understand the material you will pass. Work as many problems as you can. It's not the difficulty but the time that will get you. Try to find exams from somebody else. Also get ready to meet the great Joe Fabietz!

Dr. Hanneken is the man!! He knows his stuff. He's a really good teacher and you will learn a lot. I hated Physics in high school, but Hanneken made it fun. It's a tough subject, so work hard and work lots of problems (esp. practice tests) and you'll do fine. Seriously though, feel privileged to learn from the very best!!

Super helpful and friendly, enthusiastic and passionate about Physics. However, his tests are extremely difficult and test your ability to apply Physics with a strong foundation he gives you.

he was funny & nice... but I didnt like how he doesnt give a review for the final... and he doesnt give you the actual word problem hes working out on the board... he just reads the problems and draws pictures. if he didnt wanna write them use ppt. or print them. i mean he's ok.. but i recommend someone else if you've never been exposed to physics

Only grades are 4 tests not incl final. The tests are too difficult for what is presented in class in my opinion. Sometimes the questions are similar to the homework and sometimes not. The multiple choice is multiple guess since he doesn't explain how to do most of them in class and they are often times not in the book.

Need to work HARD for your A. He does repeat questions from old exams, so if you get a hold on multiple old exams youre golden. BUT if you dont have old exams (or few), expect to actually try learning the material thoroughly and putting out a lot of time trying to wrap your head around the concepts. Didn't particularly like his teaching style.

Will let you know once I retake it with someone else.honestly I need a comparison because I by no means am interested in physics and I need someone who is more straightforward. His formulas change from what he writes on the board to what he gives you on the test(which is confusing and will waste your time during exams deciphering the commonalities)

Get ahold of the tests from previous semesters. Pay attention in class, and you will do fine. He is very clear, and energetic about physics. Hes kinda nerdy but very smart.

If you want to pass this class, go to every class, copy notes word for word, do all the example tests, see if you can find people that have already taken the class and get their old tests. He assigns homework problems that are not mandatory but I would do those too. If you want an easy A take someone else.

Best advice to make highest grade possible in this course...Attend every class and copy his example problems word for word. Do the homework/practice test. And if you know someone who has already taken his class, ask for old tests. You can make an A if you dedicate the proper time and effort.

Great! Very straight-foward with what he expects on tests! If you know the problems he gives you for homework you will do well. Sometimes he takes test questions directly from homework problems! Very helpful, ask him questions! For the ****ulative test, look back at the examples in your notes and the problems he gave you to work on!

Dr. Hanneken is an excellent pedagogue. He is very mindful of pace, and gives opportunities for extra credit (a useful commodity in higher-level physics courses). Most important of all, he is very entusiastic about teaching, which makes it easier for the students to care about what he shows them.
