Professor Mixon was the BEST PROFESSOR I had in my career! He is also one hell of a nice guy. I wish him all the best. Future students are missing a gem!

I won't miss his classes and his obtuse "hide the ball" questioning, but I wish him well in retirement.

Comment:
Took Mixon in the Fall 2010 semester for Oil and Gas. I urge others to avoid his class. While an interesting a nice person, Mixon's best days are behind him. As many of the comments suggest, there is little to no correlation between what's discussed in the book, said in class, and that tested in his mcq "brainteaser" style exam. Warning!

Comment:
Mixon is the best professor I have ever had. He always has a way of explaining the material in a way that seems to automatically make sense. HIS TARDY POLICY IS KILLER THOUGH: one half absence for each tardy. For some one perpetually late like me, it bites. But I hate missing a word of his class anyway, its so great.

Comment:
Tends to spend more class time talking about philosophy, psychology, and cognitive theory than the subject matter of the course. This can be particularly frustrating since his final exam covers, in detail, the cases we barely discussed in class. I would take him again, but not my first choice.

Comment:
This guy has been teaching law at UH since the early 50's and he is still the most energetic professor I've had. He knows how to make you think and how to get you interested in the subject. You can tell he really enjoys teaching. If you go to UH Law and you don't take a class with him you've missed the UH experience.

Comment:
The best professor I ever had. He makes his students think and does not spoon feed the material. I no longer practice law, but the training in uncluttered analytical thinking I received from Prof. Mixon has continued to serve me well. The subject matter was a little dry, but his approach of making it all an interesting puzzle kept my interest.

Comment:
Mixon is defintely an extremely interesting professor. His class is entertaining and you learn the material almost "by accident." However, he is hard to follow, unorganized, and never thorough. All things considered, I'm glad I had the experience of taking his class.

Comment:
Mixon makes you analyze, on the spot, how cases fit together, and he'll ask students repeatedly every day how they fit together. Also, you learn some jurisprudence on the side. No matter how many people tell you that jurisprudence won't be on the final, there is still a good chance it will be.
